Is this real? I saw it tweeted by one fan account but can't find any official confirmation.

I wish Prince had taken more interest in his videos. It could have been fantastic, especially in the WB days. Frankly, until "When Doves Cry", his videos were boring as fuck. All performance videos, filmed on the then-current concert stage. The most exciting thing was seeing Prince in a pair of Levi's in "Little Red Corvette".

Did anyone else find the "performance video" aesthetic kind of jarring with such electronic-based music? I mean it's all clearly one-man walls of drum machine and synths but visually you got a full live band there chugging along. It's like how in the Kiss video Wendy's wailing away on a consistent rhythm guitar pattern nowhere present in the song.

The guitar miming was so off on these, too. I remember there was a fantastic Org thread on it like a year ago.

I'm starting to think it's intentional. I went and re-watched "Kiss" to confirm my Wendy guitar observations. Literally the only part where the guitar is actually audible in the track she suddenly stops strumming while she turns around.

It's true, his videos were really bad for an artist of his caliber.

I remember reading a Madonna interview, I think it was the early 90's, where she said the same. Saying the quality of his videos doesn't match an artist of his caliber.

Aside from a few performance videos that became classic, his music videos were extremely uninspired....

The production lacks so much for his videos, yes yes the fams who are about to say but it was about the great music he made, duh he made great music, we are talking about the videos. Really baffled how he could be a genius at creating the music and performing and expressing the music on stage, but he was lacking whenever he made his music videos.

Wow! That is awsome! I thought Prince had very nice videos and deserves it!

Prince had made very good music videos back in the '80's. Too much good one in the '90's. Fair and descent ones in the 2000's.

I would add Batdance and Kiss to that list. God videos-I'm not certain about amazing though.

That's not accurate either. Rihanna won in 2016. You think Adele's 2015 hit "Hello" is nominated this year? We don't know who is getting this year's Vanguard Award yet.
