Coolest thing I've heard this year - Montreux 2013 reference

So I'm watching the Montreaux July 13, 2013 show, which was the first of 3 Monteaux shows that year. I specifically wanted to hear "Big City" because I love that song and I'm sure that when I heard this show for the first time, it was before HNR Phase 2 had dropped, meaning I had no idea what the song was.

Before the song started, Prince dedicated "Big City" to Claude.

Then after it was over he said he had to play that one for Claude.

From now until the day I die, I am going to assume he was referencing Funky Claude, who back in 1971 was running in and out, pulling kids out the ground.

SO. FREAKING. AWESOME.

.
Illuminati Edit - I changed the spelling, but only to throw you off. See below.

It was a tribute to Claude Nobs who had passed away that year. Is he aka Funky Claude? I ain't got a scooby!

Are you familiar with the song "Smoke on theWater"?

  • MONTREUX MUSICAL HISTORY IN 1971

1971 was marked by the fire which destroyed the casino on December 4 at a concert of Frank Zappa. Deep Purple were there. They had come to Montreux to record their album "Machine Head". They spontaneously composed "Smoke on the Water" and Claude Nobs got his nickname "Funky Claude".

We're talking about the same guy! AWESOME!

I don't know that I ever heard Prince play "Smoke on the Water" but that reference to Claude - twice - made my jaw drop to the floor!

(Of course, Claude was also the founder of the Montreaux Jazz Festival and I guess Prince would have met him during his 2009 MJF shows, but I am choosing to think Prince was referencing "Smoke on the Water" at least in some small part.)

Nope, can't say that I am familiar with it.

Prince also spoke about Claude but I don't remember exactly which show, I think it might've been the 3rd one.

You made me go look this show up. I've watched most of it (show 2), but missed "Big City". He moved that set of songs to the end for the second show, whereas they open show 1.

It's one of the brighter moments from his later material (as noted in a recent article along with "Baltimore"). There's such a fun spirit in it.

I had previously made a similar mention to this in the following thread (see post #22 & #31) https://prince.org/msg/7/431050?&pg=2

It seems that Prince held the Lake Geneva region close to his heart, as the lyrics of Lavaux (20TEN) also show (Lavaux is only 20 minutes drive along the lake from Montreux).

Why would someone check a spelling if they think they are doing it correctly?

Why would someone check a spelling if they think they are doing it correctly?

.

Why would someone be sure how to spell the city's name when they live not even close to it?

It's called misplaced thoughts about indispensabilty and perhaps misplaced thoughts about Canada.

Can't lie, "Montreal" did go through my mind as I was typing the OP.

But honestly, I think I've been caught. You see, I'm in the Illuminati. Don't take my word for it - several people in the P&R forum will back this up. It's not a secret.

What WAS a secret, however, was our plan to change to spelling of "Montreux" to "Montreaux". I'm not the only one who spells it incorrectly. In fact, most of our Illuminati....wait - your Illuminati, because we're here to serve you! (As appetizers and entrees, but that's another subject.)

At any rate, we can't spell it. We're top-heavy on indispensible Americans who didn't take French at Harvard or Yale, and we just can't spell it. So we initiated the Blind Melon Protocol, which means everyone will eventually see it our way...whatever "it" is.

In this case, it's "Montreaux".

Expect to see this mistake made enough times that eventually you, like Blind Melon, will see things our way.

In the meantime, enjoy the Montreaux Jazz Festival concerts we are currently allowing on the YouTube!

It's an american, cultural thing?

If you cannot get basic facts right and try to pass them as normal, then what does that say about you?

Please explain!

.

I've been to Montreux and not yet to Montreal nor Montreaux.

So I know a bit of this.

Can a mod correct the title of the thread?

First off, I waved my magic Illuminati wand and changed the thread title without even touching it. I can juggle words without using my hands, all Illuminati members can.

I don't recall clouding over your eyes so you couldn't see the alteration, but maybe I did and forgot. If so...EYES UNCLOUD! There, that should do it.

Now, it's not an American thing. As you must know, your Illuminati is worldwide (we even have Mole Pepole from Antarctica, that's how inclusive we are!). Nor is it cultural because as you may have read, your Illuminati is kind of a one-world/one-government organization. After we achieve that, the concept of "culture" kind of becomes moot, right? We'll all be the same!

(No, we won't. You'll either be in the Illuminati; a sex slave for the illuminati; or possibly an appetizer. But that's our little secret!)

So let's let this little episode die a natural death, which is what we don't forsee for a lot of people, but I can't get into that too much or we'll end up in P&R. We don't want that.

Trust me - those hooligans in P&R wouldn't know how to rock out to "Smoke on the Water" even if you whipped them continuously with wet noodles and I should know.

Thread seems to be getting derailed.

Going back to it, yep this Montreaux performance was awesome. In fact, each show Prince did at Montreal was amazing. The estate should release a MONTREAULX box set with Blu-Ray's and CD's of all of those amazing MONTROW shows.

What I want to know is how a musician from Texas didn't acknowledge my Roky Erickson thread when he died recently. I hope you at least know who Doug Sahm is. cool

19th january 2013 I saved a youtube video about Montreux by NPG (symbol) films.

One Night

Two shows

Three hours

Coming soon.

(etc)

.

If the Montreux (2009?) rights were cleared and the video was perepared, then when will Michael release this?

Or won't they because them b00tleggars did it already?

The word is "prepared." Could you not check this error before posting?

"January" and "YouTube" are proper nouns, capitalized.

I do not pretend to speak or write english.

So what you read here is happenstance.

Also you should allow for random typos, especially when I feel the trolls are asleep.

Now that they appear awake I can do the pedantic thing and say:

You are a troll and comment about the shape of things and not the actual message that you appear to be able to decode, according to your own remarks.

You get nowhere with trolling.

You got nothing, but apples and oranges.

The OP was a presumed native speaker, trying to write down one foreign location's name.

I only posted the correct spelling once. You spent more words already.

I am a very non-native speaker with heavier handicaps than you can possibly imagine at this point in time with the information you have right now.

And yes, death is a handicap, too. No, I am not in a wheelchair or something.

Some might have encountered me at shows in the past. They should know me for a bit.
