Prince songs & albums that you initially disliked but eventually grew on you

(pls don't hate me for this one, but...) for song it would have to be "Glam Slam" and album wise it has to be "The Rainbow Children"

Phase One. I despised it until I heard it at Paisley during Gala week. Satisfied has grown on me a bit. Also, When We’re Dancing Close and Slow.

The Rainbow Children - still despise that it's part of Prince's discograpy.

Most of the NPGMC stuff is shitty.

Still don't dig "Life Can Be So Nice", "Shy".

Musicology has never much been on my radar.

Haven't much listened to HITnRUN Phase One. I actually took the better songs from Art Official Age and Plectrumelectrum and made one good album playlist.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Bob George and The Black Album (1994).....it wasn't until I watched The Lovesexy Tour (1988) when he pefromed it live, that I dug the song and revisited the album. Now I like it biggrin

Dirty Mind. It was only „ok“ for a long time. Only after his death did I start to listen to his first albums again - and now Dirty Mind is in my top 6. cool

As far as albums are concerned, I can't think of an example where this has happened. There have been albums that I've not been keen on, especially in recently years, but they've never really grown on me. There have been instances where the reverse has been true. There have been LP that I've loved when I first bought them, but over time I've become more critical of them. Maybe not to the extent where I hate it, but to the point where I don't think it's a hot as I first thought.

A couple of songs have grown on me in the past. I used to hate 'Old Friends For Sale' but I've started to develop an appreciation for it. The same goes for 'In This Bed I Scream'. I think something that's helped me find enjoyment in them is learning more about the back stories and inspirations behind them.

New power soul, I thought was rubbish but now I find it pretty funky.Of course not among his best, but I enjoy it now. There isn't any prince album that I can't listen too anymore. There's a degree of enjoyment in all of them.

I hated this at first and revisted it about 5 or more year later to discover it is AMAZING!

Call My Name. Thought and still think that's the most boring song he's ever written. Saw Morgan James live and my friend who came with me said, "I don't get it." Anyway, it has since grown on me. I let it play through now.

I remember when I got into his music I didn't get all the praise for PARADE.

Now it's a masterpiece to me. The Foefur extended version (unofficial) and my affinity for the silly film that this is the soundtrack for gave me a newfound appreciation.

Still would Stand All Time.

His voice cracking towards the end initially threw me off.

But once I started listening to how the Steeles came through. It really became a very emotional masterpiece. I love it so much now.

"You know, this is funky but I wish he'd play like he used to, old scragglyhead son of a...*smack* OOH!"

"Who's the foo singing will it's would"

New Power Soul...it's not his best, but definitely not his worst. I ignored it after one listen when it came out, but its definitely grown on me...especially the title track.

Loose - I considered it an indrustrial wanna be when it came out, with really stupid lyrics. But its grown into a 90s fave...yeah, now I pretty much ignore the lyrics and focus on the guitar.

Planet Earth - The album...barely noticed it when it came out, but fell in love with Chelsea Rogers when it came on shuffle one night...and now the whole album has become a fave in our house. I got the vinyl and now play it even more.

The one I embarrassed it took me awhile to warm up to it...Dirty Mind. Its in my top 5 now, but it was too much for my teen ears when it first came out. I also thought it sounded so thin...but eventutally I realized the thing is brilliant.
