Did anyone happen to read the ESSENCE interview with Nona Gaye? she talks about her 'relationship' with prince when she was 18, he really comes off like an asshole.

Nona: ...(Prince) was not stable. And I wasnt either. I was still into drugs big time.I never really knew him, and I never let him really know me. I tried to be this woman I thought he wanted, very passive, just letting him lead. He was 16 years older than me. He told a friend of mine he was going to marry me and take care of me. I knew I wouldn't get anything better than that from him, so I believed it. But after that we were in New York, and he asked me to come see his show. Mayte, one of his dancers, flashed the engagement ring he'd given her from the stage. When I asked him about it afterward, eh was very evasive and defensive. I haven't spoken to him since. He did marry Mayte. And it upsets me that we ended things that way, because at one point he was really, really important to me.

I know too little to add to the discussion, but this is interesting. What issue of Essence?

Well Nona has some issues anyways and thak goodness she admits to them..as stated before in my first year, she went around crawlin on the floor eating food in wanting Prince while he was taken with Mayte...watchin it on video etc. She let herslef be "dogged". Whats this on again...the beautiful Experience? Nona is eatin cakes n cookies feenin for Prince while he is on the tv with Mayte courtin and conniving with her...issues. And not Princes'.

Anybody who was around PP and Glam Slam during this era will tell you that Nona and Prince did indeed have a relationship, though it was certaintly non-exclusive... as Carmen and Mayte were all in the picture.

I just bought that magazine yesterday.I'm more interested in reading about Natalie Cole (one of my favorite singers).She looks great in these photos,doesn't she?

A possible reason for the awe and shock here is that Nona was only 18 years old. And supposedly right now Prince is married to Mani, 18 years his junior. The JW religion has many rules and requirements to belong to their organization and to use in order to get to heaven. But sometimes it feels like some are using their religion to have their cake and eat it too.
The man who abducted Elizabeth Smart, revealed that he wanted a "young bride" because innocent youth is more submissive. This is a man that said he took his orders directly from God. Even though I am not shocked by this type of thought or behavior, it does make me wonder about men and the religions they make.

well from the looks of the blurb in Essence, Nona doesnt put the blame solely on Prince, notice what she said: ...(Prince) was not stable. And I wasnt either.
She's not putting the blame only on Prince...so why should we?

It's not an awe and shock situation for me either, I could see him doing something like that, my purpose was to just show an article about P. there is an OBVIOUS difference in the ability of an 18 year old and a 36 year old's ability to "play" the game. most 18 year olds are barely able to look after themselves as adults, much less comprehend the motives of someone bent on using them sexually.
