Last night I saw a DeepFake video of Tiffany Haddish's face over Prince's face in the video for Raspberry Beret. It was so well done-- expressions, glances, head movement, lip-sync, EVERYTHING -- that if I didn't know damn well it was fake, it would have been very easy to think it was really Tiffany. Needless to say, I didn't appreciate it at all and let my feelings be known. The video is gone now but it got me thinking about the implications of what could be to come.

I could just be too sensitive and tripping but if I come across a Deepfake video of Justin Timberfuck's face over Prince's for say the "Automatic" video. I'm just going to need y'all to write me from time to time and put a little something on my books, if you can.

Anyhoo, what are y'all thoughts on this technology and what can be done with it?

I came across the video again but I couldn't download it. So I grabbed some screenshots.

Now do y'all see how freaking problematic this could be???

When one day you're happily scrolling about your business and you happen upon a DeepFake video of Michael Jackson performing "Purple Rain" or Prince in the "Bad" video singing "Your butt is mine..." Please try to remember to Orgnote me your info...first.

That's what I'd seen too, that is until I saw Tiffany Haddish performing "Raspberry Beret". I'm telling you it was so well done, that it blew my mind. For a brief moment, I thought it was really cool and cute but then I thought of the implications of how it could misued and taken entirely too far. Imagine one day finding Jacquees performing "Gett Off" from the MTV Music Awards. Or getting out of the tub in the "When Doves Cry" video.






I know I'm putting way too much thought into this but I'd rather sound the alarm about what could happen before Prince starts turning up in pornos. IJS!

I don't like this and I'm not amused. Seems pretty much a pointless exercise. I guess this has some practical spplications but given how people are very appetite driven it'll be abused for profit far more regularly than used to benefit anything useful.

It is definitely going to explode, it has major repurcussions in a lot of areas that people are scrambling over at the moment trying to figure out how to deal with it.

Im super confused.

This particular instance seems like harmless fun, but I am uneasy about the whole Deepfake thing in general. Misinformation and blatant denial of the truth are already a serious issue even without a bunch of convincing doctored videos floating around to confuse people.

I was at a community meeting this afternoon. The main discussion was about the police department using facial recognition software. for "public safety". Add that with the way DeepFake videos like the one of Prince are "entertaining" their way into acceptability and this is some serious Orwellian type shit.

The problem is the video is not really of Tiffany Haddish. It's called a DeepFake video, which means someone took a software program and used it to mask Tiffany's face over Prince's face.

The technology is works so well that it is really hard to tell that it is not Tiffany instead of Prince because the software keeps all of Prince's characteristics, expressions and movements intact.

I think it's wrong and wanted to warn and/or prepare people for what could be the floogates opening of Prince related DeepFake videos.
