Mad - Bebop ta Hip Hop Somebody posted this link on Twitter yesterday, and as I'm sure not many here will know about this, I repost it here:
Bebop Ta Hip Hop by Headshock (https://www.youtube.com/w...e=youtu.be) is a rather obscure acid jazz/instrumental hip hop track released on an underground 12 inch in 1994 (see https://www.discogs.com/V...ase/988316).
In Nov/Dec of the same year it built the basis for and was heavily sampled in the track Mad. Wonder how Prince got in the possession of this disc?
Also, as Bebop ta Hip Hop is also sample-based, I wonder if anybody here knows one or some of the tracks that were sampled here?

I didn't know that yet. very cool to hear it and just how much of it was used as 'basis' for "Mad". and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Funny you post this; only yesterday I listened to Mad from Cafe De Paris 98 on headphones whilst running and I got thinking about the sample . After all these years of digging Mad I’ve never heard this track.

The Fat Jazzy Grooves 7 compilation also exists as a full length CD album. I've had it for around 20 years.

Great find and thanks for the post/links. Never knew what the sample was in Mad and had honestly just mentally tossed it aside as "That sounds like George Clinton saying From bebop to hip hop" so many times in my head that it almost became reality for me when I listen to this track, both Prince's version and the NPG version intended for Exodus. Obviously way more than just the spoken From bebop to hip hop part was used from this track! [Edited 7/7/19 9:34am] Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. Ah, on Nu Breed Records! This is the original Nu Breed Records... founded by Asia Love and DJ Smash. Awesomer label back then... worked on some stuff under Nu Breed back in the day. "He's a musician's musician..."
