It is the one thing I would like them to release above all else, his final work - he always moved forward, I feel strongly that this should’ve been released before anything else - however, the estate, wb, Sony whoever are badly letting us and him down.
.
Yet no. We will have more t-shirts and dolls.

Fingers crossed! But weren’t Sony in charge of Legacy, so more likely reissues or something like that. You’ve given me some hope tho!

The Legacy releases are different. I've said it in a different thread recently, as have others. There were 3 phases to Legacy's stuff: the purple vinyl (3121, etc), then Ultimate Rave, then the forthcoming Versace, etc on vinyl. I relatively sure the forthcoming stuff is a different campaign.

I wouldn't get your hopes up, from what has leaked from in Blast From the Past it doesn't really sound that amazing, it would be more for novelty or curiosity value more than anything else.

Announcement for what?...seriously at this stage no agreement or contract signed for something from the Vault after 96....they haven't the right too to release remasters on reissues...so what can we expect..a cd that everybody got with a remaster cover? Laughable!

Everything you said is assumptive on your part. You know nothing of contracts, agreements, signatures on behalf of whoever, dates, licenses, rights, etc. None of us do. But I suppose if y'all calm down and just wait a hot damn minute, we'll all find out soon enough.

It's not assumptive. The details of the Sony deal were widely reported when the deal was made. The deal does not include vault material or unreleased music.

The Prince catalog covered under the new agreement will be distributed by Legacy Recordings, a division of SME, with worldwide rights beginning immediately to 19 previously released album titles originally released between 1995 and 2010. The list of album titles includes “The Gold Experience” (1995), “Emancipation” (1996), “Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic” (1999), “The Rainbow Children” (2001) and “3121” (2006), as well as titles originally distributed by Sony including “Musicology” (2004) and “Planet Earth” (2007). Additional album titles from the 2014-2015 era will also be distributed with worldwide rights under the deal in the future.

Starting in 2021, Sony/Legacy’s distribution rights will be expanded to include 12 Prince non-soundtrack catalog albums, featuring music recorded by the artist from the 1978-1996 era for distribution in the United States. Music from this period covered under the agreement includes the albums “Prince” (1979), “Dirty Mind” (1980), “Controversy” (1981), “1999” (1982), “Around the World in a Day” (1985), “Sign ‘O’ The Times” (1987), “Lovesexy” (1988), “Diamonds and Pearls” (1991) and “[Love Symbol]” (1992), and “much more,” the announcement reads.

Prince’s two all-time top-selling albums, “Purple Rain” (1984) and “Batman” (1989), as well as “Parade” (1986) and “Graffiti Bridge” (1990), are not included in this Sony deal; they are soundtrack recordings to Warner Bros. films and are subject to different terms. Also missing are several albums from the latter half of Prince’s career, as well as a few Warner titles including “The Black Album,” originally scheduled for release in 1987 but not issued until seven years later.

According to the announcement, the agreement also includes rights to “other previously released material recorded post-1995 including singles, b-sides, remixes, non-album tracks, live recordings and music videos.”

Yes, CD4, and I somehow got hold of Ruff Enuff which i think was from those B2B sessions, just a funk jam nothing amazing.

I feel that way too. I recognize that his 80's output was his best, but I'm sick of it. I've listened to it to death. I want to hear newer, more modern stuff.

And if they are going to stick to '80s stuff, please move past the 1999 and Purple Rain outtakes. His best stuff were all the aborted projects leading up to SOTT (e.g. Dream Factory, Roadhouse Garden, Camille, Crystal Ball, etc.). I have some decent quality versions of some of those songs, but I'd love more.

:yeahthat: It's as if they enjoy sitting on a goldmine and not doing anything about it. Even Prince made a partial effort to release some of this material with the Crystal Ball set.

In fairness, that was one time, twenty-one years ago. Any eventual effort was aborted, the subsequent exceptions being "Splash" and "In A Large Room with No Light".

It's like fans expect things to come out every month or something, and it's just not going to happen. He's been gone 3 years, and what's been released thus far? Opposed to nothing. Add in what we know is coming as well. Sounds like the "not doing anything" part is invalid.

Hi TP. Thanks for the response.

I agree with you, but I think you misunderstood what I was referring to. Lurker was referring to the Dream Factory / SOTT era material specifically. The partial effort I was referring to was Prince releasing tracks like Last Heart and Movie Star on the CB set.

By contrast Warner Bothers half assed the original SOTT CDs and hasn't touched them since.

The "one time" was a reference to Crystal Ball in 1998. I get that it was multiple songs, but it was one release overall. I wish he had followed through with CB2. But it was Prince. He so rarely followed through with a lot of stuff. I don't know how WB "half-assed" the original SOTT CDs. They are what they are - for now. However, there is that SOTT movie set coming out which sounds like it might be a cool thing.

Ultimately, we'll just have to wait it all out. The shoulda'coulda'woulda stuff just makes us all crazy. haha
