Pretty much not saying anything. Only interesting thing is that he claims to be in contact with expert fans. Wonder what Databank and PrinceVault thinks about that....

I.o.w.: Only short term planning. No strategy, making it up on the go.

On the leash from his bankster overlords and no real musical heavyweight(s) that can intervene.

We are two: a Prince expert who supports me, and me. We spend every day in this archive. Here is still work for many years.

.

This is so goddamn stupid. Almost 40 years of tapes to get through, and they're only doing this with two people.

.

We'll never going to get exhaustive box sets.

If we can draw that conclusion then the banksters are too stupid to allot resources for profit maximization.

.

Then: what skillz does it require to play a tape (into a digital recorder) and transcribe what is on there?

Of course it is more work on a master tape versus a mixdown tape but still...

The work is based in the USSA so I will not go there but pay some costs and people can step in and do the work.

.

.

"Yes, but it's not easy to pinpoint. Everything has to be carefully restored, which is very expensive. We have to constantly weigh whether we want to save everything first or are looking specifically for commercially lucrative shots. Difficult."

Nonsense.

The US dollar is overvalued. This will selfcorrect in a few years.

The work intended is not very skilled. It takes a short training.

Baking tapes. Duplicating tapes. Digitizing tapes. Transcribing contents. (even without knowing the unreleased catalogue)

It simply takes some time.

It takes some purple insights to assign priorities.

It takes a good elevator talk to convince the banksters about Michael's choices.

.

If the tapes are gone beyond simply baking them, then yes we need to pay professional restoration facilities.

.

So: why not allow some fans to assist if they are willing?

I think it's probably true to some extent. Duane is in the thankyous so there must be a reason (we should check which other names are there, BTW). I know of at least 2 other fans that were more or less "consulted" for previous projects (I ain't gonna name names or give details obviously), and both said that their suggestions were not really taken into account, at least not entirely. Were they the best "experts" to ask? It's not my place to tell and I honestly don't know, but it appears the main reason they were asked was because they were also connected to the music industry, so they were known by, and able to reach out to, the powers that be.

If they have Duane at Iron Mountains with Howe, then they don't need anyone else from the fan community. He's the best among us. Besides, not only do they need a Prince expert but the Estate also needs someone with a positive attitude to move forward.
So if it's for real, I'll take it as a very good news.

If this is true I wonder if he’s been able to uncover anything new that he will need to add/amend to his fabulous book???

Agree to disagree. if it is true, in several interviews, Duane said he only knows 1982-1986 which is why the books he is doing on recording sessions only cover those years. There is 30 years more of the vault. Questlove only cares about 1980-1988 & we give him shit over that & that is 4 years more than Tudhal. Just because he is more likeable than the other fans doesn't mean that he is the best among us. No disrespect Fred & I hope you don't take it as such.

He isn't. He's working on his next book. They likely contacted him for the recording info of those tracks, that's all.
