I agree with your assessment of "Nothing compares 2 u". Almost every word of it. It's a nice little song, it's not a masterpiece by any means. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for. |

It’s just not to my taste. Until I heard that song, I thought Prince couldn’t make a bad track.
I LOVE the unreleased full version. Crime it was not on PR Deluxe. I wish the Estate would release it. "I like to watch." |

This.
People act like it's the only song he ever recorded. Not here of course but in general.
It didn't even reach #1 on the charts.
It's a fine song and I've seen some fantastic performances of it that he (and others) have given us over the years but we're getting (or have gotten) into real serious "Stairway to Heaven", "Satisfaction", "Free Bird" levels of just totally running this shit into the ground with this track.
To the point where I just roll my eyes and have actively begun to dislike hearing it.
I hate how much he's almost completley associated with this one singular track, especially since he died.
...
I got the impression that this thread was more of an "OK, fine. That's quite enough" topic than a "Jesus God, that song is TERRIBLE" one and, along those lines, I don't even think it's close.
"Kiss" and "Raspberry Beret" might be strong runners up.

Exactly how I feel as well... They are not bad songs, not at all, but have just been milked to death you get sick and tired of hearing them.
Tbh I always skip Purple Rain when it comes up on shuffle...
I rather listen to songs like Joy n Reptition, Anna Stesia, We Can Fuck, than the hits such as Kiss, Raspberry Beret, Purple Rain, etc...

A close number two is "Little Red Corvette". I don't hate it, but I heard it SO MUCH during its heyday that it hold no specialness for me anymore.
This version I listen to in replacement of the album cut most of the time great version "Mayday!!" BOB4theFUNK |

I can't even fathom those who wouldn't miss even one song from a few decades of Prince music, and am so grateful there is so much music from Prince to appreciate throughout his career. That said,I wouldn't miss Cream. I always thought it was too bland for Prince. |

Would you say it was perfect for the scene in Purple Rain the movie?
