So...will there be an "Orginals" Vol.2 set??? If there would be another release, who would have to the rights? Tidal? WB? Also, how many albums is Tidal able to release?
As the estate is in dissarray and no one is really sure of what music is going to be released, I am really intrigued with "Orginals" and what else could be released. So much great music that we could hear! |

The release of Originals completes the Estate's obligations to Tidal. Michael Howe said that there could be Originals Vol. 2 if the first does well enough. If there is a Vol. 2, I'd imagine it will be a Warner Bros album.
As to what could be on Vol 2, Tidal has a "Written By: Prince" playlist. Here's the songs on it that aren't on Originals.
Nasty Girl 777-9311 Get It Up How Come You DOn't Call Me Love Song Sugar Walls A Love Bizarre Yo Mister Jerk Out Stand Back Why Should I Love You? With This Tear 2gether 101 The Belle Of St. Mark The Bird He's Mine |

Yep, it's part of a settlement between Tidal and the estate over who owned the rights to what, etc. (remember when Jay Z was bragging about having Prince's music and all that.)
I do think Piano and a Microphone and Originals could be testings for a future series of similar releases over 2 or 3 years.
We don't see it anytime soon (ie in a year's time). There is something coming in the late summer. It won't be WB.
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

I thought Prince only played keyboard on Stand Back?

Prince did not do any vocals for "stand back." Other than Nicks used the music for LRC the only input Prince had as the Synthisizer... So his verson dosn't exist.
also "How Come You DOn't Call"? what?
"A Love Bizarre" would be cool!
"The Belle Of St. Mark" is something I would LOVE to hear more than any other of the songs he wrote for others.

He did. He didn't write it. And his keyboard parts have been released/leaked on the internet. He played a few parts (more than just one as the story used to go). There'd be no reason to have "Stand Back" on there, because it's not his original song.

Likewise for “Why Should I Love You?” as that’s Kate Bush’s song. Whoever made that playlist mustn’t have known what they were doing. |

Prince added vocals, but also added many instrumental parts to the song, at his Paisley Park Studios. When Kate Bush and Del Palmer listened to Prince's returned track, they weren't sure what to do with it. They worked on it on and off for two years to try to "turn it back into a Kate Bush song". But yeah contributing isn't written by. |

Any chance there might be an uncredited original lurking someplace for one of these tracks:
Wendy & Lisa - Waterfall
Wendy & Lisa - Lolly Lolly
Madonna - Like a Prayer
Madonna - Keep It Together

I guess it could be the First Ave 83 concert that Apple bought the rights to (along with the rights to make a documentary out of it and the rehearsal footage leading up to that show)
People were saying that a CD/DVD were being planned for release.

Not really. Remember, WB is only thru the early 90s. NPG Records was what Sony took over. I mean, we don't know exactly what it is, but I'm not totally sure it's just going to be another purple vinyl cash grab. Of course, we'll see.

First they sell you the albums.
Then they sell you the originals.
Then they sell you the demoes.
And then they remaster them all. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry. |

Logically, WB should schedule 1999 Deluxe next spring, about this time. I think they're still not ready to release more than one album a year. So beyond that, we're looking at 2021. I'm not sure what Sony could release. Maybe The Undertaker?
I believe, as noted in other's posts, that if Piano and a Microphone and Originals does well, they could be a setup for a series over time, maybe every 2 or 3 years. I said that about PAAM when it came out, too.
There are many things I'd like to see come out. But what is logical to actually sell records to a larger market... that remains to be seen. With PAAM & Originals, I stay optimistic. I'll ride the Originals wave for a year, it's such a rich set.
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

It isn't a "cover" it's just him blazing guitar over the track and actually turn it into a good track... I want to hear his cover of Jacko's "Bad" that supposedly exists somewhere in his vault...

Very unlikely, I see no reason why.
However there is the mystery of Are You My Baby? and that instrumental sometimes titled Pickle that appears to be a genuine Prince outtake and that shares its fundations with Are You My Baby?. It's possible Are You My Baby? was based on that track Prince sent to W&L and this is what BigChick believes, but it's still a bit unclear what happened and how. Neversin do you know anything about this? |

If I’m not mistaken, his full guitar track is on the “Club Version” and the “Dub Beats” remix of “LAP”. "Don't need no Reefer. Don't need Cocaine. Purple Music does the same to my brain." |

If you mean that "Tickle my Pickle" thing, I believe it to be 100% fake, it doesn't even remotely sound like Prince or anything he would do... The backing track is probably lifted from the instrumental promo of the "Are You My Baby?"...

Yes, that one. OK thanks, that's interesting. BigChick was totally convinced it was real but I can't recall if it had to do with the way he obtained it before it leaked, or if it was just his personal belief. I agree at first I wasn't sure but it sounded like something Prince could have done on one of these days he does something unusual and toys with new tools and concepts.
I once wrote to W&L's website to ask but never got a reply.
So OK, your take on it makes sense. Let's see if further info on this emerges but if not, then maybe it was a fake. For reasons I won't reveal here because I don't think you have, but you'll see what I mean, I'll trust your hears more than the average person's |

A source also told Variety that a documentary about Prince and the Revolution’s legendary concert at Minneapolis’ First Avenue in August of 1983 has landed at Apple Music. The show marked the debut of guitarist Wendy Melvoin and the “Purple Rain”-era incarnation of the Revolution, along with the premieres of several songs that would later appear in the album and film nearly a year later (in fact, the album versions of three of those songs were recorded at the show, albeit with significant overdubs added later). https://variety.com/2018/...203011709/ |
