Michael Howe, the Vault Audio-Archivist Guy....

...says he’s discovered the pre-stripped down version of When Doves Cry...which he said was “too overblown and cluttered”. This is the one with the bass. He says so in the recent Classic Pop Magazine article on The Originals.

He also said that he discovered new, unheard marvels “every single day”.

I am sooooo stoked!!!

But we know it exists, and we know there's more than we haven't heard than we have. You've basically stated nothing new. I mean, it's cool. But there's no guarantee we'll ever hear that version - despite it being a great thing if we did.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Strive

This is the same genius who heard people talking about a tape, dug through thousands of cassettes to find the right one and basically forced its release on the estate/WB...seemingly without knowing that a bootleg of that throwaway jam session had been out for 20+ years. P&M83 is what he deemed essential to put out on the market.

Everything must be new to him because he doesn't know anything.

Remember how he "discovered" Nothing Compares 2 U lol

To be fair, I had never heard the one he released. I absolutely love it.
It is BY FAR, the best one out there other than Seanad O’Conners’s.

..And for the record, if any of the Paisley family is reading stuff posted on the .org, don’t listen to what people here say. From long time experience here, one the things I’ve learned is that a lot of the Prince fans here have the absolute worst taste in Prince music. lol
look at the “best” lists people post. Lol
The loudest voices here do not represent what the majority of fans think.

Love love love that the Nothing Compares tape was released. It’s an amazing gem.

When it comes to the estate picking what to release the issue of whether the music was previously available on bootlegs should be irrelevant. Fans who bought bootlegs couldn't wait for Christmas so they are just going to have to be content while the rest of us open our presents.
