The Symbol Mic-Stand

So - I may be terribly slow, or I may be terribly off-pace with this, but:

I really don't enjoy the symbol on the mic-stand. I think it gets in the way of a perfectly good performer. However, (and here's where I admit I'm either being slow or stupid - *both*) was that there to stop him throwing the stand around, dancing with it, becoming lost in the moment and dropping his leg over it etc...was it a health rather than an aesthetic thing?

I fully appreciate the niche of this post and that I am contributing to the "Wasn't Prince's hair nicer on the Parade cover" that we've all come to forebear. Anyhoo - just putting it out there. Contribute if you would like to, don't if you don't want to. *smiles*

I don’t know the reason for the stand but I think it was just to have a big symbol front and center. But I agree with you, it was nicely done but it looked terrible. Just my 2 cents. Here’s an article about the guy that made the stands.

Thanks for joining in the conversation. I had a skim back through some org conversations and they only seem to touch on the appearance of the thing rather than anything else - as one contrbutor says, it's just another one of those things we will never have an answer for. I was just looking at some pictures of him behind it, earlier on, and the thought about his health and the need for him to stop throwing the mic-stand around struck me. It could be something, it could be nothing.

Thanks for posting this. The backstory for the stand and the Minnesota native who turned a passion into a service for rock stars was something I had no clue about.

The symbol mic-stand is breathtakingly beautiful. It is ONE of the BEST things he EVER created. I would LOVE to have one in my bedroom...

I get where you're coming from. I can see how it can be perceived as obnoxious, but I think it is just something that he was passionate about.

One thing I did like about it was the shadow effect it created on him when the lights hit hime just righr when he would stand behind it. Thought it was super cool.

Interesting topic, would not have thought to talk about it.

I think it was just another way to fuck with people trying to take pictures from the audience.

That mic stand is "one of the best things he ever created"? And you'd love to have it in your bedroom?

Dude...

Do you want to talk about it?... I'm genuinely worried.

It was aesthetics, as the excellent article posted by berlinas2k points out.

I thought the concept was cool, but I could have done without the little symbol on top of the big symbol.

Thanks for joining in the conversation, and what a lovely contribution too. No, I didn't enjoy the mic-stand - as I say, I thought it got in the way. You're perfectly at liberty to enjoy it, and to criticise my dislike - I guess you're at liberty to criticise in any way you see fit too....as you did. Thanks for that.

I agree - it got in the way of seeing him play guitar, which was the whole focus of the 3rd Eye Girl shows. And I don't understand why there needed to be TWO symbols on the stand.

Stood behind it in PP Jan 16 and was a shame no cameras were allowed. Think it’s pretty cool that you can just look at it instantly know whose mike stand it is

Oh and the reason for 2 symbols is for the close up of his face - you still get the smaller symbol I. 😎

I would love to have it while I do speaking engagements. But it wouldn’t be very appropriate in church.

My objection to the symbol mic stand was that he block the view. When he plays the guitar I really like to watch his fingers, but that damn stand was always getting in the way.
