Prince Album Fonts

Hi

I'm after some album fonts. I know that Mistral (Purple Rain - lyrics) is standard but keen to get as many as I can. Particularly the prince album script and SOTT.

I know this has come up over the years but can't find anything to advise how to get them. Can anyone help?

Damn, those are tough ones. You mean cover font, right? Most likely they're custom fonts, meaning the artist designed a font just for that project. Or highly modified an existing one. Even Mistral is modified.

But I might be able to find something similar. I don't have quite the font collection I once had because some of my old fonts don't work in Windows 10, but I'll look.
And the MUSIC continues...forever...

Thank you. I know that people have created them and I had a bunch about 20 years ago but don’t now.

If anyone has anymore or can just direct me or where to go, I'd be most grateful.

This question keeps being asked for decades. I wish people would understand that most of these "fonts" that are usually asked about ('Sign O' The Times', 'prince' album, 'Purple Rain' title etc.) are NOT computer fonts.

.
They are hand-drawn graphics, the same characters don't look identical, therefore they can't be converted to a character set used by computers. There are imitations out there but they are nothing more than usually very poor quality imitations. And I say very poor quality because even if the characters themselves look alright, such unique designs would require a lot of different kerning-values and ligatures built into the font file so that different combinations of those letters would look equally acceptable. This is where most of these imitations fail miserably, because they were copied from certain words but as soon as you start typing a totally different word with those characters it will look awful.

As for the ones I’ve already been linked to, thanks again. They look fantastic.

It wasn't a font.
And this version is absolutely horrible and useless, whoever made it didn't even care to scan and vectorise the characters properly and had no clue about typography either.

No, but I studied art and have done a lot of graphic design in the distant past – and I love books and typography too. (The 'Lovesexy' typeface was done on computer though so my mistake, my memory has failed me on that one.)

Sweet. I went to school for art and welding a few years ago. One of my favorite art classes was Typography; it's a more fascinating subject than one would assume.

I agree - should've put "font" in quotes as the type in the album design was hand-drawn. Was just saying "here's a free version, if you're looking for a font that makes an attempt to come close to the original with a click or two."

If you're interested in typography or hand-drawn typefaces, I'd recommend reading about Margo Chase, who worked on many Prince albums (and others).

Here's a good summary:
