Prince's future estate releases under Troy Carter ? - do we trust his judgement? Hmmm, apprecaite he has been on the scene for a couple of years now. However reading about his more recent history ie lawsuits, GAGA & him falling out etc I wonder again whether the estate has miscalulated with this guy? I am sure I read somewhere today that he has never actually been to a prince gig! Strikes me another corporate record bod out to make some quick $?..i'd love to know what his fees are! Anyways, do we trust his judgement?..i damn sure don't!

Not really one to complain, not picky or an audiophile or an obsessed fan but... These releases have been really dismal, poorly put together.
They are basically releasing everything we already heard in leaks...

As long as music is actually coming out then I'm not going to complain. This Originals album looks interesting and I know we've heard a lot of them before but it's a start at least. If the story about the estate going bankrupt is true then they probably realise that they can't make money by just sitting on his recordings. So hopefully we'll start to get one or two collections per year. There's a 1999 deluxe rumoured in some quarters so perhaps we'll get one album of "unreleased" stuff and one deluxe compilation per year. It might be just wishful thinking, in fact it's DEFINITELY just wishful thinking but let's stay positive. Sure, the previous releases haven't been great but as long as there ARE releases, let's just be happy with what we get. I'm sure the majority of it will come out at some point anyway.

The 'Originals' album is a good choice and concept, but Troy was assisted by Jay-Z on this particular project and whatever your personal opinions regarding Jay-Z, at least he knew and had a working relationship with Prince. My primary issue with Troy is that he was formerly head of Spotify, a company Prince was publically critical of. Regardless of Prince's lack of Will and planning, I can't imagine he desired an ex-Spotify exec with those kind of corporate 'values' running his Estate and selecting releases.

It’s a good point.
What we’ve had so far feels like it’s from someone who was a bit of a Prince fan around 1984-85. It’s been mediocre at best. I’m not a bootlegger fan at all so having stuff in good quality audio is a must. The microphone and a piano release was diabolical in terms of audio quality. But what (who) are the alternatives in compiling / curating going forward? Is it just an heirs decision? I get the feeling reading between the lines that many decisions are the result of convoluted economic interests and the well documented legal shenanigans rather than an attempt at enlarging the musical legacy that Prince left. I think the previous releases are great. It may be that many had the piano & mirophone session here, I did not belong.
they made the best out of the material and using Spike Lee's film made this little treasure accessible to a much larger audience than theoretically
possible with such a bedroom recording. The cover is great and the single including video is very powerful.
In short, you would not have been able to stage Prince and this recording better.
Also, the 7inch of nothing compares 2u and the accompanying video is extremely suitable. I like the releases so far and I think it would be better to keep such highlights as standalone releases. if you make the previously unreleased tracks accessible to the public as bonustracks of known albums, the focus will always be on the well-known album and never on the bonus material. the previous releases are very lovingly made and also the original project seems so far really cool.
