Prince saves The Joffrey Ballet Imagine my surprise as I was watching the Amazon Prime documentary titled The Joffrey Ballet-The Mavericks of American Dance to hear the Creative Director, Mr. Arpino credit Prince with saving their New York dance company. It seems the company was experiencing financial hardship. Prince was so inspired after seeing their performance that he licensed his music to them for free and created a ballet called 'Billboards'that featured them performing to songs of his. The ballet was so popular it returned The Joffrey Ballet to financial stability. This man is so incredible. https://www.google.com/ur...k3yau88hI3

Cool story. Prince was an awesome and low key philanthropist.
I am happy the dance company is doing well. I love when people are trying to save the arts.

I trained at the Joffrey Ballet School in NY and one of my teachers was in the company when they took on Billboards. Prince even invited them to Paisley Park and threw a party for them when they came to Minneapolis! She says he watched them dance from a balcony sucking on a lollipop and eventually danced with them for a bit. . As far as the Ballet itself, aside from the first section it's really not all that good. Dancers are fantastic but the choreography and overall concepts just don't really work. However, it did bring in a lot of money for Joffrey and kept them from going completely under!
