Thanks Hatrina.

Lurker, you did a good job on the photo!

Can you do this for me with all my '70 and early '80 photos?

They all have that orange tint lol

For comparison. As you can see, mine is not perfect, but it's much closer to the true colors than the original scan.

More nonsense to capitalize on the purple empire.....folks, Prince barely wrote 3000 words (about 10 pages worth of text) of the memior before he passed away, this book in almost its entirety will not be princes words, but written by a hired hand. So it is a shame they are using the same title Prince chose for his actual memiors in an attempt to fool people and captitalize as much as they can. Money always trumps morals.

Sure I will be happy to see those 3000 words, even though they will likely be heavily edited by the purple powers that be. They are taking liberties here overall that are insulting and disrespectful to what Prince wanted this to be. I won't be buying this item, I will wait for the highly edited 3000 words to show up online elsewhere, which it surely will at some point.

The skin tone still has too much yellow in it, even though the photo is already very under-saturated. If you'll try to increase colour saturation it will just add even more yellow to the skin. So trust me, if this picture would be perfect quality you would see no yellow in Prince's jumper at all, that is a pure red colour that just looks orange-ish now because the photo is so faded and was unprofessionally scanned.

Nope, that was Allen Beaulieu's idea. Prince just wanted a bed for the shoot, it was Allen who thought that wouldn't work so he went out and bought the bedstrings at a junkjard.

No, Kares is right. But still, Prince had the final word, and the DM sessions by Beaulieu had more than just the bed idea. It's fair to assume Prince called the shots, or the liner notes would say otherwise.

I like to see the pic as prescience selfie. He chose that background for a reason.

This selfie is ooking for a interesting pattern in the background for Prince to be put over, which is what the DM cover is. It impresses me how much his expression is focused on "does this work?" and not "mirror, oh mirror".

How dare they release Prince's own words, that fans have been desperate for, using the title that he personally wanted for this writing.

It's tragic that he wasn't able to complete it, but perfectly appropriate for it be released (possibly containing his handwritten notes) and to be beefed up with other exclusive stuff.

I can't really understand how you can be enough of a fan to post on this site, but not be interested in what Prince's was writing for his memoirs.

I think what leadline is saying is that the majority of the book will NOT be Prince’s own words or prose - beyond his childhood years. I for one was hoping he had made it to at least the PR years, but knew it wasn’t likely based on the number of pages. So, I agree that unless they were given lots of previously unseen notes, pictures, etc.- most of the book will most likely resemble that of another Biography.
*
To me, the book is worth it just to see/read his initial pages.

A decent biography would barely cover the ancestry of an artist within the first 15-20 pages (which is roughly the equivalent of 55 handritten pages) before even getting to their birth, so yeah, it's a great shame that P didn't have the time to write more. Still, I can hardly wait to read it.

Here is Kare's version of the corrected photo (I'm posting it for him). He says: "it's just a very quick adjustment (done in the Photos app). Only scanning the original film with a pro film scanner and with VueScan Pro would allow to do a better job."

His is much better than mine, but I still think there's a hint of orange in the shirt. It doesn't look pure red to me.

The skin tone still has too much yellow in it but I just wanted to show a bit more vibrant colours to try to take it a bit closer to what it would've looked like originally. So the hint of orange you still see on the jumper would actually decrease too if this would be perfectly balanced (which is not possible without masking elements of the picture and correcting-colorising the elements independently).

Thank you violetcrush, aside from the tainting and capitalization of the process and final result, indeed I am saying all that you mention. Some folks like to read things so fast and then knee jerk a response that makes no sense. I even stated clearly in the post that I am looking forward to those 3000 words, even if they are unfortunately edited.

Thank you for actually reading the post and posting an educated reply, as you always do.

I would think late October might be a good time to release some music with the book coming out. Like maybe the deluxe edition of 1999.

If I'd be in charge I'd release '1999 Deluxe' on September 9 (which is in large parts of the world written as 19/9/9). And I'd spend on marketing it better than 'PR Deluxe' was.

.

For the book launch I'd release the 2 'Piano And A Microphone Gala Event' shows recorded in Paisley. Those were quite intimate and self-reflective, I think it'd be best to publish them at the same time as the book.

Are we talking about on DVD? If so then...

Here's what bothers ME:

Prince died of an overdose of the drug Fentanyl. Of which, it is very highly fucking likely that he never even knew he'd taken.

I'll stand by my response to the initial post. As it's going to contain 'scrapbooks and lyrics', that should at least be stuff in his own hand.

The memoirs would have been for financial gain. I have no idea on advance he may have received, but there clearly would have needed to be paid back if nothing was published, and the estate absolutely needs to make decisions that will enrich it (it still hasn't paid the huge death tax bill afaik).

This seems to me a perfectly reasonable release, and beyond that, not releasing it in a profitable way would be a dereliction of duty by those running the estate.

Does anyone know why this is being released by two different publishers and if there will be any differences between them?

yeah, but that makes too much sense lol if it makes sense, they won't do it neutral

also, since there will be very early lyrics (from what i've gathered) in the book,
it might be a nice way to start up the expanded reissues series after the initial
book release, with the For You and Prince reissues, including lots of early songs
from the vault.

I get what you are saying as well. Of course the publisher must release the book in order to recoup any advance given to Prince, and also to attempt to make some type of profit for themselves. They will also give major "hype" to the book regardless of how much was written by his own hand. We don't yet know - other than the first 50 pages about his genealogy/birth/childhood - what other handwritten pieces will be included.

*

From the description posted earlier on this thread it seems that the majority of the book will be a Biography from where he had stopped at his childhood up through Purple Rain. I am very curious about the person or people who organized and wrote the remaining pages. I guess still lots of questions to be answered...
