his majesty's pop life rsd vinyl I found a rip of the record store day album online somewhere and decided to download it to hear what it sounds like. I don't know if the person who uploaded it to the masses had a bad setup or not, but the record sounded heavily distorted. Does it sound like that to anyone else on their turntable? Could it be the record itself?

It's a compilation of already released songs. Just build the playlist yourself and listen. Princevault has the deets. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I downloaded it too and 'Little Red Corvette' plays at the wrong speed. (It's almost a quarter note higher in pitch and it's faster too.) . Friends don't let friends clap on 1 and 3.

Funny, I started a thread on this, and it was locked, since the "Versace Cassette" was the thread that posts were supposed to be placed in, which makes no sense, so wonder if this one will be locked for violating SNIP -of4$ or something lol. It's a pretty cool release, but years back, I had suggested a 7 vinyl box set with all the 12 inches, which looks like this:
1-1=Side One Track One and so on...and instead of re-releasing every single 12 inch for $13, you could get all(actually most) of the ones from 79 to 89 on 7 vinyls for $100 or less...but Warners and the Estate seem to have no interest in releases that die hard fans want, or any fan for that matter. They all seem to be as clueless as Londell McMuffin....my he is a awful lawyer...there is a reason Prince stopped using him...
1-1 Sexy Dancer (Long Version) 8:53 1-2 Let's Work (Long Version) 8:04 1-3 Little Red Corvette (Dance Mix) 8:21

I bought the vinyl and I notice LRC is faster as is Raspberry Beret. To me it’s not that big of a deal. Yes, you can just make a playlist of these songs but I love the track list and experience of these songs on vinyl.
. I can’t speak too much on distortion, but I can give it a another spin and see [Edited 4/20/19 23:13pm]

. And yes, 'Raspberry Beret' is slightly faster too, but the difference is not as big as in the case of 'Little Red Corvette'. Is the original Japanese edition like this too? Friends don't let friends clap on 1 and 3.

It ain't just these particular vinyl records where it's sped up. It's funny you guys mention that because some of the vinyl's I've been going back buying(rechristened NPG Records releases from the Estate) sound faster too that shouldn't like La La La He He Hee(side B of the Sign O' the Times 12") and Kiss (extended) and some others.
I thought it was just me but I see now, other Prince vinyl's are sped up too.

. We're talking about certain songs being sped-up on some releases (while other songs on the same release play perfectly), not entire records, so no, it's not the turntable. Friends don't let friends clap on 1 and 3.

The RSD2019 release sounds okay for me, other than a drop in audio quality on the second disc.
Didn't notice a playback speed issue, but were you comparing the Dance Mix vs album original or Dance Mix (vinyl) vs Dance Mix (CD) or something? I thought the Dance Mix was already slightly sped up, deliberately so.

I guess I need to hook up my turntable. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Question for those that have bought (& played) the vinyl, does 1999 segue into LRC, or is it cut?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
. 1999 comes after LRC, so how would it segue into it?... Friends don't let friends clap on 1 and 3.

. OK, sorry. I only have a flac version of the RSD-release too, and '1999' ends with the big "splash" sound on the 1 and with Prince singing/holding that C note and although you start hearing the first bits of the 'LRC' drum beat, it fades out right after Prince's voice stops. . But I too would like to know whether this RSD-release is any different to the original Japanese edition or not, especially as 2 songs were mastered at a slightly wrong speed on the RSD-version. I've asked this several times before but no-one who has both editions came back with a response yet. . Friends don't let friends clap on 1 and 3.

- Exactly. I for one loooooove the lay out and artwork, and the overall feel of a vinyl album. I'm a sucker for vinyl anyways. (From a vinyl record you could see the louder and the softer songs or parts etc... I just love that, as well as the smell, the feel, holding it while listening to it, investigating it, reading EVERYTHING that's printed on it.. etc.) - The tracklist is fine by me. I really love it. Ah, memories. As for the speeds 'n qualities... from my experience of listening with headphones, I kind of enjoye it very much, and am not too distracted by the remarks mentioned here. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. Oh really??? An official version of 1999 12" that doesn't fade in the last few seconds has always been a very nerdy want from me, i've always wondered if there's a tape in the vault somewhere of that track with no LRC crossfade. It's such a tiny, specific request though that I figured it'd never happen.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
. It is the same crossfade as on the '1999' album. As I said, you can still hear the first bits of the 'LRC' drum beat underneath Prince's voice. . Friends don't let friends clap on 1 and 3.

Even thought I bought this vinyl I made my own compilation from CDs.

The first record of my set is pretty warped. So bad it skips! The second record plays fine. I don't know what to do? Paid $40 for the damn thing.

- if you have a receipt, you can always go back and exchange it. don't wait too long. - and if it doesn't work, you can always make the weight of your play-arm (of your turn table), 1 or 1.5 gram heavier. only thing is that this can influence the sound (a bit). - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves.
