it's rather tame when you compare it to the version he did at the Xenophobia Celebration.

now that one kicks some serious ass and it just goes on and on and on and on. guitar

huh? are we talking about the same one? i'm talking about this one:

http://www.princevault.com/index.php?title=25_June_2002

it goes on for over 10 minutes and the first solo is definately not renato, the dude
was on the keys not on the guitar smile

and yes, compared to that performance, the indigo one is a bit more meh.

although, i have to admit, since listening to it again (after your thread) i'm definately
also feeling the "indigo nights" live version. i didn't remember it as being so great.

perhaps because the rest of that album is so tame, i somehow remembered this song
also being pretty slow and meh. but it's pretty great stuff guitar cool

I was there that night and it was one of the most amazing Prince shows I´ve ever seen.

Great setlist, too.

The whole week at Paisley Park with so many drastically different shows and setlists each night and the whole experience and being so close to Prince was by far the most amazing, most surreal and most wonderful Prince experience I´ve ever had. So many stories to tell.

Met so many nice people, too.

Are you talking about the June 24th show at PP?? I SO LOVE listening to that show. His acoustic guitar set was just amazing, and he did Tangerine!! - one of my favorites...AND Forever In My Life, SISIA, and Free.

No, he also played Whole Lotta Love on June 25. It was a phenomenal night.

He started with Bambi, wore some silky, burgundy red colored flowing shirt, and it was the night he played after Blues rocker Bernard Allison played, so Prince kind of picked up on that hard guitar playing vibe of Bernard´s set.

For example, when he did the set that you mentioned (the acoustic night on June 24) , Norah Jones played before him, so he continued that relaxed acoustic vibe after her part had ended.

June 24 was the complete opposite of the night that followed but both shows were spectacular and flawless.

But my most memorable moment of it all was when Prince thanked the crowd for being there at Paisley Park with him and for supporting him and sticking with him through the thick and the thin.

-

The version of Whole Lotta Love that he played on June 25 was otherwordly. The whole atmosphere that night was just.....very, very special.

Wow, thanks for mentioning this guitar solo. I haven’t listened to it since probably a month after I bought the book/CD, which was the year that it came out. I remember being disappointed that he didn’t sing any of the lyrics and stuck with the free willy theme song a lot. Just listened to it again a few minutes ago, and that solo is awesome. It might be the best officially released guitar solo of his whole career. I could listen to that on repeat for awhile.

Yes - he thanked the crowd the same way on June 24th. It was very sweet - he started by saying, "you know, I was sitting back there listening to Ms Jones play and it just hit me that I'm in my own house..." Then he thanked everyone and told them he has the best music fans in the world.

It makes sense that he would keep the vibe calm and chill after Norah's set. I really really love his acoustic sets, so that is a favorite of mine to listen to. What a treat for you to be there on the 25th though. He rarely played Bambi, so I'm sure that was great to hear. Seems like all of those celebration shows were speical.

I've never heard much of those 2 celebrations shows. Do you think 2 Celebration box-sets would be worth a release? (I mean I think we agree we'd like to see all shows released, but do you think those shows are stronger material that deserve priority over others?)

He really should have done a proper release. The sets are so good. I've heard the June25th set, and it was great too. Here's the good tidbits from princevault about the June 24th show (4th night):

There were several bootleg releases in different qualities. I have the first generation CDs and they are, of course, not as good as the newer ones but I didn´t feel like buying the same thing again, and I didn´t know where to find it online.

They are definitely worth releasing officially because some of those shows were extremely good, especially June 24 and 25, and the show on the 25 was , in my opinion, extremely tight , cohesive, energetic and , for lack of better words, flawless and perfect. I wish they´d release a DVD of that night. It had all of the things I love about a Prince concert and none of the things that I dislike about a Prince concert. Full songs, lots of heavy guitar, great setlist, no medleys, very little talk and mindgames, no boring cover songs but interesting cover songs, and very skillful playing, zero fuck-ups, great crowd, and Prince in an amazingly good mood.

So yes, it deserves an official release , audio and video.

i don't, i'm sorry. but i'm fairly certain this was something he threw out there. perhaps it was just
one of those posts on his site like 'the celebration was so good, maybe we should release all those
shows on a 7 disc set? what do you think?' - that kinda thing.

perhaps it was a reaction to the bootleg set that popped up very shortly after the event?

Ah yes, there was that, two, so with the Samples and TCI that's already 2 7 CD's boxset announced.

So was it 3 with Celebration? I really don't remember any such thing and neither does Princevault but it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I looked up the tracklists on Pvault and that would indeed make an impressive collection of shows nod

of course Princes guitar skills detorieted in 1998 up until 2000.he simply didnt practise.if you cant hear it than thats your problem, but he did recover starting with 2001.

if you think that Prince mainted his instrumental proficiency all the time than you are deluding yourself

I actually don´t even remember them announcing a Celebration 7-CD set.

But yes, it would be a great idea.

Preferrably with a bonus DVD of the June 24/25 nights.

The others were great, too, but those two were better suited for a release.

And maybe the night when he played Paisley Park....inside Paisley Park.

On two nights he played a complete ONA set but it wouldn´t make much sense to release both shows.

no no no!

There's no such thing as "of course" and it's not my job to check whether what you say is true or not. Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence and this is something you appear to have come-up with on your own all of a sudden last week, and it's not like there's been a consensus over this for 20 years. So maybe you've made a great discovery or maybe you haven't, I can't tell, but if you have please provide evidence for what you are saying. Or don't, but then don't go all "you can't hear/you are deluding yourself" on people because if that's your only argument, then you're just talking to yourself and on top of it being offensive.

So by all means, blow my mind, I'm waiting, and if you provide enough solid evidence I will have no reason to argue with you anymore nod
