I remember this being announced. I also recall P made a comment about Sabotage making a lot of money from the Celebration boots.

Interesting story. Tough situation for Prince, because at that time most likely only hard-core Prince fans would have bought the official releases, but since they were already bootlegged the majority of those fans already had the CDs little or no cost

Man Prince really was at his low point during 1998 -2000 period guitar wise.everything b4 and after was much better than that era

ok its a bit hard to explain non guitar player why Prince was not up to his standards 1998 up to 2000 even though i respect non musicians as much more objective music listeners compared to musicians who tend to be a bit snobish. when i was a kid what attracted me to Prince was his guitar playing.whenever new album was out i would skip the song up to the guitar solo moments that was the most important to me.i know i was a stupid kid.but i did analyze every year of Prince as a guitar player. looking at Princes facial expressions u would think he always played awsome but actually listening to his playing you can see a big difference in his playing if you listen to anything live or studio from 1998 up to early 2000.take Rave dvd as an example Purple Rain ,that version drags ,play any other pre 1998 or ost 1999 year version of the same song and he always cut it loose .in 1998 his guitar playing was bland unispired, very rudamentary compared to his standards.it seemed to me that he was strugglin to play parts that he wrote originally.anything he did on Rave 2000 concert you can find much better b4 or afterwards.tale a listen to live in philly 1997 and compare that to anything from 1998.in 1997 he weas still cutting on guitar.but after 2000 starting with hit n run tour he started recovering.in 2002 up until the vox period he was amazing on guitar.

Well thanks for elaborating. I'm still not entirely convinced because by 1998 Prince had been playing guitar fluently for 25 years and playing music pretty much every day of his life, so I fail to see why a sudden drop or a sudden lack of practice at that stage in his career. I'd really love to hear one of his bandmembers' opinion about this (Militant if you're listening and interview someone from those years!), but I am no guitar player so you know more than I do and next time I listen to a 98 or 99 show, I'll keep that in mind and try and pay attention to the guitar A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

When I sang it happened that I took a break from singing for a few months and my skills were there pretty much intact when I came back. It's only when I stopped singing entirely that I began to lose my skills and it took over a year for it to start happening. And when it comes to writing after decades of practice my skills are still there even if I don't write for months. But voice and writing aren't "instruments", so maybe it is different IDK. I remember Greg Boyer telling a very humilating experience he had getting back to his instruments after not playing for a while and being shamed by a nobody he jammed with, while he'd been playing with P-Funk before that, but I think he had quit playing for a couple years not weeks. Never heard it but it's gotta be better than the version we got from the Alladin DVD. Started off Ok and then just fizzled out.

I was there, 2002 Celebration and Indigo too (22/09/07) and i must say the celebration shows was excellent. All shows were filmed, i hope one day they will see the light of day...
About Whole Lotta Love, the 10mn celebration version is the best he ever played imo ! Epic. "You can skate around the issue if you like,

That was such a great concert , wasn´t it ? I still remember it very vividly, and it was perfect from beginning to end. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"
