Graffiti Bridge - Prince songs only = a killer spiritual album! Yes, yes I am sure this has been debated to death on here - but so what! I really wish the album was configured as follows. It would complete the spiritual triple of LoveSexy, BatMan OST & Graffiti Bridge. Looking at the 10 solid tracks to make a stand alone album I think it holds up brilliantly & would be on a par with say his 2nd tier albums [1st tier obvs being P. Rain, SOTT, 1999 etc] I think we are ALL agreed on this! Track listDisc 1 PRINCE
Disc 2 ASSEMBLE YOUR CREW!

Could've been an amazing album minus the filler from the other artists and the other outakes from that era he didn't use...
Just The Question of U, Joy In Reptition, We Can Funk, Thieves In The Temple are great great songs, imagine a few more quality songs and the album would've been one of his "best".

Can't Stop This Feeling I Got (4:24)
New Power Generation (3:29) 1 The Question Of U (4:00) Elephants And Flowers (3:54) We Can Funk [feat. George Clinton] (5:28) Joy In Repetition (4:53) Tick, Tick, Bang (3:30) Thieves In The Temple (3:20) Album ends right there for me. “Still Would Stand All Time” is a snoozefest, fam. And the title track is a joke [Edited 5/14/19 16:55pm]

no way! Still (who's the full singing will it's) Would Stand all Time" is one of his best! "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

The early configuration with the original version of Elephants & Flowers was pretty good. There's an amazing album buried somewhere in between Graffiti Bridge and Rave Unto.

I think still would stand all time is terrible, overblown, over religious, over produced. The album is over by that point. Hamburger, Hot Dog, Root Beer, Pussy

played it in sequence as the stand alone Prince album again last night & it's just beautiful & powerful. Genuinley forgotten how stunning the Prince tracks were.....jesus his multi-layered guitar work on Joy In Repeitition is insane as is the utter beauty of The Q of U.

Just said exactly the same thing before reading this! [Edited 5/15/19 3:51am] Hamburger, Hot Dog, Root Beer, Pussy

You can't sell me an album with the title track or New Power Generation on it as a good album. I do agree that the Prince songs were the best on there though; nix disc 2 and add a better title track and "Prince and his gang" track and get back to me.

. The live versions are probably better (actually just guessing as I'm not super enough in to live stuff to remember), but I love the song. It could use a little oomph on the studio version I will admit. No argument about the limp title track. . . .
So true. Prince trying to pull the "we're the new kids, so get out of our way gramps" was laughable in 1990.

Still not a great album.

where 1+2+3 from side A + 1 from side B are the earlier bootlegged versions in clean quality.
THAT would make my killer album that goes in his 5 best list.

The first half of Still Would Stand All Time puts me to sleep, but halfway through it picks up and is amazing.

Still would stand all time....a SNOOZE FEST!!...surely not?! Straight out of church & beautifully sung. How very dare you!

Isn't there somebody on here that has made this thread worded differently like 5 times, just with a different title? This has been discussed to death. The only thing Prince needed was an album every 3 years, as he was flooding the market. The Time songs would have been better on Pandemonium, except The Latest Fashion, which was TONS better as My Summertime Thang

Prince songs only is an album as good as Lovesexy. Even the worst Prince moment (Tick Tick Bang) beats the associated numbers. And I’ve always loved the title track.

You have to consider the author/source. "Climb in my fur."

I hate, hate, hate the mixed beginning of Joy in Repetition

And when the estate or Troy stumble upon the Holy Grail of the pristine JIR, they will have a box of TC Ellis Bambi alternates and immediately forget about JIR. Trust me. This.

1) Can't Stop This Feeling I Got 2) Thieves In The Temple (Full Lenght Version) 3) The Question Of U 4) Elephants & Flowers 5) The Grand Progression 6) We Can Funk (faded) 7) Joy In Repetition (original drum intro) 8) God Is Alive 9) Still Would Stand On Time 10) New Power Generation (Pt.1 + Pt. 2) And believe me, in this way it is really a listening pleasure, on par with his classic albums.

For the life of me, I don’t understand how Pink Cashmere didn’t make it onto the GB record.

Me too, on the same level I hate the CB "Crucial" inglorious fade out and the CB obscene "Last Heart" NPG operator intro.

didn't realise it was a consideration, regardless it would have not fit in thematically at all IMHO in terms of lyrics & sound.

Considering the non Prince songs are not very good, this would make it a better album, but apart from Question Of U and Joy In Repetition there's not much there I love.

Ugh this would have been Prince's greatest album if it only contained his tracks. This album has the greatest concentration of Prince tracks that I love the most.

@ the idea of Tick Tick Bang being "spiritual." Is there a Sacrament of Splooge that I don't know about? [Edited 5/16/19 11:19am] We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

. They're all his tracks. Just because he had other people sing some of them don't make them someone else's tracks. . Does anyone NOT consider "Melody Cool" or "Round and Round" Prince tracks? Some collaborative element on some of the tracks, heaven forbid... . For such a notorious control freak, it's actually pretty cool hearing him delegate and share the spotlight a bit. I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.
