Lotus Flower/MPLSound I've been revisting these lately and can't seem to get enough.
Lotus of course is the stronger of the two and always loved it.
But I am surprised how much I am enjoying MPLSound as I pretty much wrote it off when it came out. There are duds on there for sure, but overall its a fun Linn throwback. It soounds like Prince was having a blast making these.
So just a shout out about a later Prince album that hasn't been on my radar for awhile.

I loved both albums when they were fist released but now I tend to listen to my favorites from the set. There are several strong songs and I think it has some of his best work.

The day it came out, I told my boss I would be in late, then went to Target as soon as they opened and bought this album. (So I could listen to it on my way to work.) I still feel amply rewarded. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I recently started digging Lotus Flow3r, especially From The Lotus and Back 2 The Lotus. TRIPPY!!! Our little mad scientist, Prince! "I like to watch."

no love for 'elixer'? i listened to it the other day, and it didn't suck. it would make a nice instrumental album, fer sure, but that title track is hot.

I agree I listen to this frequently. He has some beautiful songs on that one. I actually got it after he passed away, I think I stopped listening to his music around when it first came out and to be honest I was kinda surprised how good it was. I love "You're gonna c me" and "Here" especially.

I have elixer but I never listened to it. I might someday there may be some gems on there, I will have an open mind. But since Prince was my dream man , assuming she was his love, Bria makes me feel envious a little lol, I don't really wanna hear their sex songs together. 😃

. Same here... I just listened to it after years of not hearing any of it. Much better than I remembered.

Nothing spectacular but some half decent laid back tunes. The title track is a nice duet and I had to smile at the 9 and a half weeks mention in Here I Come. . Lotus is a great album, his best since TGE for me. I love the tracks with Sonny & Michael B. . MPLSound not so great but it does have a couple of vintage P tracks in Dance 4 Me and Ol'Skool Company. I think her voice isn't bad and I do like the concept of Prince doing a Sade like album , ( Prince style) because I love Sade and a sensual sound.

Would of loved to hear a live treatment of Wall of Berlin, that track just grooves.

I liked Elixer but that put me off a bit too honestly. Some of the lyrics are pretty suggestive. Prince talked about it in an interview back then and acknowledged that some of the songs were dirty but not nasty. He also said that she may have been talking about the man who would become her partner for life. I thought he may have said that to keep from getting too much flack from the JWs.

Honestly, 'Elixer' was always my favorite of the three, but I'm seemingly one of the rare Prince fans that doesn't chuck a CD to the back of a walk-in closet when it commits the unforgiveable sin of being merely written, arranged, produced and only instrumentally performed by Prince. . No worries, guide vocals will one day surface in clipped 128kbps mono and then, yes, Elixer will have its day. '

Yeah I think I remember reading something like that saying the album isn't promiscuous and she could be singing about one man like a man she deeply loves not a bunch of different guys. Prince was really great at writing for female singers as he captured female feelings and desires really well. Maybe that is another reason he had so many female fans. I did hear the song Elixer on Pandora once and I didn't even realise it was Bria/Prince...i thought it wasn't bad .

Love LotusFlower...so organic. Wall of Berlin is criminally underrated. MPLSound fell flat for me. A few decent tracks (Ole Skool is a JAM) Elixer- Have to revisist...but All This Love was perfect at Montreux 2009.

Yes, I think the engineer Ian Boxhill said P dismissed Elixer as an option for one of his own albums because of the ‘suggestive’ lyrics so that’s why it ended up with Bria.

$ has always been my fave on Lotus...that one gets me movin! But Wall of Berlin is a highlight too...but really I like the whole thing. MPLS is not a masterpiece by any means...and I sorta forgot about it. But I’ve been digging it lately. He just sounds like he’s having fun and the energy is infectious. I completely forgot about Elixer. I need to check it out again.

That’s funny, I’ve also been listening to MPLSound on repeat lately and was surprised to quite like it. I never bothered to listen to it much before. I got a kick out of the use of the Linn and was surprised he was still using it at this stage of his career (“is that a Linn drum I’m hearing?”). And the ‘Valentina’ song...oh, Prince... I even really like this song. I love ‘Dance4 Me’- it’s bubble-gum with an infectious beat and puts me in a good mood- here I especially enjoy singing,‘Hallelujah!’ lol Overall it’s a nice, chill album. As for the Elixer album, I don’t have this album. I think this is largely because when I first heard the song ‘Elixer’ on the Tavis Smiley show, and Prince’s accompanying gushing, I disliked it immediately. Maybe if I’m desperate for new (for me) Prince material I’ll reconsider listening to it, but right now there’s no interest. On another note, I always wondered if Prince purposely released this album as ‘Elixer’ instead of ‘Elixir’, but that’s another story!

Ohh. I hadn't heard that. Funny he ended up singing All This Love and Elixer himself at Montreux lol. Bria was never going to sing them live so I guess he decided to put them in his set.

Prince(r.i.p.) started using protools with this triple album that he got advise from when he visited Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis studio in La. This project brings back so many memories of the website LotuFLOW3R.com launch. Which I first was able to get a sneak peak at Tavis Smiley's charity benefit concert that Prince was the sole guest at in early 2009. Then the nitemare website launch that had me pulling my hair out to get through the maze to purchase tickets to the MEGA three shows in one night at the then Nokia Center in Downtown La. Then the tickets to the three Tonight Show with Jay Leno appearances in one week. I was able to attend the whole extravaganza. "That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when was doing the Purple Rain tour had a lot of people who knew 'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."

That was a really special time I thought. The Nokia show was amazing from what I've seen of it.

Lotusflow3r is great and his best album since TRC I also enjoy MPLSound. Here and Better with time are really beautiful ballads. Elixer is a decent and there's a few good songs on it. Welcome 2 The Dawn
