Sexuality or Let's Work?

Sexuality's semi-rockabilly funk or Let's Work grooving baseline that just won't quit - which one do you prefer?

A certain kind of mellow.

Let’s Work all day and twice on Sundays.

But in the same vein, a slightly obscure funk jam that totally holds its own is
All Day, All Night.

I don't think "Sexuality" is anywhere near rockabilly or has its sensibilities. If anything, it's heavy with New Wave. It reminds me of the quirkiness of Toni Basil, or stuff like Adam Ant, Cyndi Lauper (although she came out later), or Devo.

But to answer the question: There are other songs like "Let's Work" that are a funk workout. But there are few notes of weirdness like "Sexuality". It's a predecessor to things like "Computer Blue", "It", "Dance On", and more. I hated it when it first came out, but it's still so unusual and interesting, I'll never have enough of it.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Sexuality.

I am listening to my West German Target "Controversy" CD as I type this. (Very good sound, btw.)

Top 5 Prince rhythm guitar tracks and top 5 Prince screams of all-time.

Let's Work.
(Sexuality is a good tune too. I just prefer LW here)

for cutting edge? sexuality, for the irrepressible funk that was always in his heart and for which he had to create a band for? Let's work.

i think there's a little of the punk aesthetic to it too. when i say cutting edge, i still remember sexuality being used in a documentary on sex, it was on cable, can't think of the name right now but it was risque as it only could be in the early days of cable. that was the kind of edge prince had in those days. just looked up the show, it was real sex, and hbo dropped it because it's no longer needed anyone can sneak and see anything they want, i know i do.

Sexuality. I'll take it's weird new-wave punkish edge over the funk of Let's Work, despite the latter's undisputable groove.

But I've always preferred weird out-there Prince, to partyman Prince. And for that reason, my favourite song from the album is Annie Chrisitan.

SEXUALITY - especially when watching the video biggrin I hear a good drum beat, cool guitar riff and a punk synth/keyboard sound. No “rock-a-billy” sound to me.

And I also love his spoken word...
*
“We live in a world overrun by tourists...tourists!!...”
*
I think it’s the first time he mentions “a revolution” in a song too. Another reason to like it more smile
