Might P's reflection extend to a whole album? One of the first posts I read on the new song "Reflection" described it as similar to the songs from For You, Prince's debut. While I agree with this comparison for the most part, "Reflection" exudes a level of confident craftsmanship that clearly marks it as the work of a seasoned artist rather than a green -- albeit potential laden -- pop star.
Still, this got me to thinking: what if, as has been suggested, "Reflection" is the title track to a new album? And what if the reflection theme was carried beyond the one cut and encompassed the full set? Can you imagine Prince revisiting his past sounds from track to track, interpolating and updating various periods from his career with the skill of an old master? It's not really so farfetched if you remember that we are approaching his 25th anniversary in the business and he will be voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this fall for his career contributions. I think such a recording would bring everything full circle. Of course, I would do just about anything to hear Prince revisit the sound of Parade, so sue me if I'm getting carried away. Peace, David

Peace, David I like it and I will remember where I read it should this be anywhere near what goes down. But I would settle for him just being as open, honest and inspired as this one song throughout an entire album.

For some reason the Reflection song remains me of She Loves Me For Me. I wish the song was more peppy and exciting.

That's a really great thought David, and I like the way u worded it - well thought out bud.
I agree, it could pave the way 4 things 2 come (and like u said, what with 25 years, and the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame etc, it would be a VERY cool idea 2 pull off - just 2 remind all the doubters out there that: 'Hey - Im still here, can still cut it IF I want 2 - but Im quite happy doing what makes ME and my fams happy...') But U know P - why lead u down one road, when there can be a number of diversions or other avenues 2 explore along the way... so who knows?

Nicely posed question, livewire. One can wait, hope, and funk... I am MrVictor....

What all you people said here makes some sense... Prince changes like we do and exploore things...Tries to reinvent himself and I suppose that's the greatest challenge for any creative artist... It would be boring if he kept doing the same things over and over again...
Reflection is tagged with another reflection title underneath the song title (In the Reflection room that is)... i understood it this way: Song: Reflection, Artist: Prince, album: Reflection... Hope this is true!!! It should be some kind of an introspective album... Interesting... "Goodness will guide us when love is inside of us... The Force will be with you, always"

The retrospection would certainly fit the theme of the lyrics. "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

I agree. And I see an album like we're discussing as the best way that Prince could please his fans without totally compromising his art. Everyone has their favorite period and sound and it's only natural that we wish Prince would revisit it. But he -- and also we -- know that you can't really go home again. Trying to do an album in the vein of another earlier work would only leave both sides unfulfilled by the results. But, effectively recapturing the past would be far more possible if the effort was kept to a narrowly focused endeavor -- like a single song. I would love to hear the current Prince's take on Dirty Mind-era funk, Purple Rain-era rock and Parade-era orchestral pop. Gawd, I'm dreamin'. Peace, David

* * i thought about this a lot of times, but i was thinking of him not doing a circle, but a sling shot backwards. Start doing some funk stuff like Rave, then working back into rap , well maybe more of spocken word music, then some rock, then parade type stuff, back to rock with Pop, then into his early 80's stuff, late 70's. * * *
