Why hasn't the Estate had any of Prince's albums recertified by the RIAA?

According to the RIAA website (which keeps track of album sales), Purple Rain was last re-certified in 1996, at 13x platinum, with 1999 being last re-certified in 1999.

The Estate should really get on this with the RIAA. Michael Jackson's estate always has the numbers updated for his albums every few years or so.

A certain kind of mellow.

Good question AND it would be a good PR move.

You can't appear on lists of "greatest" unless you have massive sales.
That's the way the world works.

BUT, right now, the estate would be doing everything they can to diminish the value of all assets (to lessen the amount of estate taxes due).

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.
