Was the release of the 3121 album / timing? During this Lenten season I have found myself very drawn to this album again. I remember it coming out in March and I kinda thought it was an odd time for an album release but then I wondered if Prince intentionally put this out during that month of 2006. Although I have no idea if JW even practice Lent but it is a reflective time and a time to come back to God. So I was just wondering...The Word and Get on the Boat both have very strong messages.

He put it out because he found out WB was releasing Ultimate Prince... He even had them push back that release

The time of Lent changes every year. Prince also released Parade, Sign O The Times and Lotusflower in March. The songs for any album are recorded long before said album is released. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I seriously don't know where you people get these bizarre theories on the simplest of shit. Crystal Ball (1998) The Purple Medley (1994) Girl 6 (1996) 3121 (2006) "Still Waiting" (1980) Live From Paisley Park (2005) "Strange Relationship (Live)" (2005) Lotusflow3r (2009) The Chocolate Invasion (2004) The Slaughterhouse (2004) "Bataclan" (2004) Sign O the Times (1987) Parade (1986)
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Prince contacted Unersal in late November of 2005 and wanted it released on December 13th, 2005. The release date would have been 12/13 which is what Prince initially want.niversal couldn't make it work and then they came up with the release date of March 21st, 2006 giving it a release date of 3/21. Warner Bros already had Ultimate Prince on the release schedule around that time and Prince wasn't happy and Universal thought it would cause confusion in the marketplace. Warner Bros. relented to Prince & Universal's wishes and pulled the release from United States stores but was sold overseas and was available in the U.S. as an import until it's official U.S. release in August of 2006.
