I remember not just when I saw Carmen perform at my weekly visits to Glam Slam LA. But when Prince(r.i.p.) included her in an advertisement on his long form video for the Symbol album, with the still unseen preview(that I was SO looking forward to) of the "And God Created Woman" video.
Why did Prince NEVER release this video?!
I often wondered about this but that very short clip with the petals in the water could have been taken from the 3 Chains O' Gold film (where the naked chicks are in the pool with Mayte).
So we don't know if there is a video for And God Created Woman.
.
I suppose if there was he'd have put it in the film. Shame though as it's the best song on the album for me.
It MOST DEFINITELY was a preview of the "And God Created Woman" video. Prince has DROVES of unreleased videos in the Vault. A back up, hired,on call, dancer of Prince's(r.i.p.) that I met informed me of them. "That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when was doing the Purple Rain tour had a lot of people who knew 'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream." |

He did, too. Prince always won.
Actually, he did not make her a star as a singer/performer at all. She went back to LA and landed the gig on MTV, which is what really put her name into the mainstream. Well, that plus her Playboy spreads and the Dennis Rodman fiasco

We know there was 'DROVES' of unreleased videos etc in the vault but what evidence do you have to say there is 'DEFINITELY' a video for And God Created Woman?
That preview is about 3 seconds of petals in a pool, it could be but we don't know |

Anna Garcia (aka Fantastic was /is not a star, Robin Power was/is not a star, Bria Valente was/is not a star, etc. Tara (aka Carmen) kept that name because she first came into public view with that name. No doubt it's catchier than Tara Patrick and stands out much more. However, I would imagine when she walked away from - or Prince removed her from - the PP camp, she was on her own. If she (or maybe an agent if she had one) hadn't hustled to get that spot on MTV she most likely would have become a distant memory. |

A "star in his eyes" - as we all know - did not make the woman or man an actual "star" as far as the masses were/are concerned. Sorry, but not the same thing at all. |

If we are here talking about them, creating threads about them considering
Them, they hold a brand of star status if that is only here. Carmen is/was a star. Just because I’m not into her I still can admit that.
I have no idea who the current “it” guy or girl is today
But that doesn’t make them NOT a star simply because I happen to be
Unaware of them. [Edited 3/10/19 12:27pm] |

My point was that had Tara (Carmen) not pursued furthering her career on her own in LA she most likely would be long forgotten. Yes, Prince gave her the name and the initial recognition from Prince fans/followers at that time, but she would have faded out of the mainstream "celebrity" status and media attention. Prince was trying to make her into a singer/performer, and that didn't take off for her. So, she took the TV Host/Playboy Model/B-movie route and it worked out for her.
*
We're here talking about them, because we are Prince fans and we know the history. I have no doubt that most who are not Prince fans and/or did not follow his career do not know who Tony M, Ingrid, Robin P, Anna G, etc are - Carmen being the exception because, again, she pursued her own thing and became more of a "household" name with the "sexpot" image. |

Here you go.....video of Carmen on the Howard Stern show in 1996. At 10:20 she discusses her relationship with Prince. Her perception of him being "in love" with her is most likely a bit "off" though, as he was seeing multiple women during that time.

No, because, as I said in my earlier posts, he was trying to make her famous as a singer/performer, but she was not talented enough. More than likely, he knew she did not have the talent when he met her, but wanted to shag her and move her to MN in order to have her at his "beck and call", which is exactly what happened. She even spoke about that aspect of the situation in the video I put in my earlier post. Some of the PP employees have stated she would spend a ton of time alone waiting for Prince to contact her.
*
She became strictly a sex symbol persona - someone for the boys to oggle over in Playboy and/or comedy flicks. And she also dated/married high profile men like B Real, Dennis Rodman, Dave Navarro. |

I'm not a huge fan of Ingrid's album - it's okay. I don't know that it would have been a huge success even if he focused all of his attention on marketing it, but Carmen's was even worse
I was pleasantly surprised by Ingrids' album. The music throughout is very moody and hypnotic, and her poetry is edgy and interesting. It was something different that what you would typically expect from one of Prince's female proteges. |

She had already moved out to LA to pursue a careeer when Prince met her though. She had begun her start at trying to be famous. No doubt he helped that along - especially with the name change. She may have had a "leg up" in gettnig the MTV gig because of the work with Prince, but hosting a pop music show segment and being a singer/dancer are two very different things. Jenny McCarthy was not a musician/performer/dancer at all, and she had huge success with the hosting gig on MTV. They don't care that you can sing or dance - they need you to get the crowd riled up and have the ability to keep the viewer engaged with how you look and interact with the guests.
*
Again, no doubt that Prince helped her with giving her the unique name, and putting her in that promo video he did, but her album was a flop. The masses would have forgotten about her had she not gone back to LA to make other things happen with her career.

NOTHING I've said is untrue here. Go back and review the history. She DID NOT succeed in the Prince camp. She became a sex symbol after her Playboy pictorial, dating popular musicians at that time (B Real, Dave Navarro) and doing sexy TV/film roles. * PLEASE take off your rose colored- or in this case "purple colored" glasses off long enough to accept the reality of the situation. |
