Lovely song. I remember I was in Hawaii on vacation when this came out and I purchased it while there. I was so excited!

One of Prince's most greatest and wonderful moments!

Probably the first Prince song I knew about, as a kid in 2000-ish. Still such a beautiful track and video.

Ah, this song... my "theme song" of sorts for a long-lost love. That was a great summer... . This will probably upset a lot of rabid fans, but... the sound effects have not aged well. ALL his songs with sound effects, actually, sound kind of cheap to me now. At the time they were playful, and maybe even a nice flourish, but after the tenth listen, they started to grate on me, even when the songs were new. "Most Beautiful Girl", "Peach", and so many others... the modern-day-me Prince fan wishes the sound effects weren't there.

He sings the ever-lovin daylights out of that song! Never grows old. "if you can't clap on the one, then don't clap at all"

I remember the build up to it quite well.
First the mysterious ad, "Eligible bachelor seeks most beautiful girl in the world."
Then the big ad with the quote from Quincy Jones about
Then the remixes etc. all on sale from the NPG store.
it's was such a huge buildup.
I also have a souvenir from the NPG store, a huge butterfly promoting the single.

25 years! Oh Lordy My password is what

Very fond memories of the song. It's such a shame that's it's being erased from his legacy due to the legal wranglings and new people discovering his music don't have easy access to it ...

I really don't need the sound of water dripping when he sings about tears. It's silly and it doesn't add anything to the song.

Can't believe it's been 25 years. Time flies!

I love this song. I played it for the first dance when I got married. How is it that the first song he release outside of WB while he was fighting for ownership of his music from WB is one of the few songs the estate apparently doesn't have the rights to?

Love this song. But wasn't this the one that he was sued over for copyright?

He did go a bit crazy with sound effects and "noises" on songs in the 90's, but he always used those to one extent or another beginning in the 80's. Sort of his thing * Funny how as I got older I realized the main message of this song was really more about a shy woman whose inner beauty is what made her the most beautiful girl - not her physical beauty. * 'cause baby, this kind of beauty has got no reason 2 ever be shy

To me, The Most Beauttiful Girl In The World is his "I just called to say I love you".
Just like Stevie, Prince is a great artist, who should NOT be remembered by such a shitty song (but this is just my personal opinion)

This song was a big hit, after all of the talk of Prince being done and having label troubles. I remember first hearing it on a radio show where you heard two songs, and voted for which would be the song of the night. It stayed on for a nights too! I was highly impressed by the song, the remix ep the beautiful experience which had lovely packaging. Always disliked the version that was on the gold experience. 25 years, it seems like yesterday.

+1 Feelgood, you nailed it with the "I just called" equivalent! I could never warm up to TMBGITW, IMHO the melody feels very basic and is just repeated ad nauseam... And the arrangements are just too... "flowery", or something

My guess is the subject could also have been Kim Basinger. He wrote Acknowledge Me during that time, which is most likely about her based on the lyrics, and she was also extremely shy and suffered from Agoraphobia around that time. They were hot and heavy when she picked up and left MN while Prince was not there. Then again, Susannah has just discussed him asking to see her in '93 and crying in her arms and telling her he's going to come back for her. * See how pinpointing song inspirations is very difficult for this time period??!! ![]()
