I think it's a decent idea for Record Store Day.

The good news is that those Estate people are beginning to dig into P's discography and identify rare stuff. There's a lot of rare released and promo material in dire need of a wider availability.

Regarding formats, I'm down with those funny vinyl-only or cassette-only releases for RSD as long as they're exclusive in those formats only for some time. After a while the material should be available digitally: it's 2019.

For those who may be frustrated by the format, however, the Versace Experience cassette has been ripped by fans long ago, and can be found online quite easily. The Estate can also fight piracy by making the material available digitally.

As I said on February 19 : Information confirmed by a record store friend in France : THE VERSACE EXPERIENCE will be a purple audio cassette and HIS MAJESTY'S POP LIFE / THE PURPLE MIX CLUB will be the replica of the Japanese promo vinyl released in 1985, including the remix of Paisley Park. Available as part of the record store day of April 13th.

IDK if the Estate has the rights for this footage, but a nice promo for the Versace Experience on YT would be the December 95 VH1 Fashion Awards per4mence of P. Control nod

Can't say I'm too excited over either one of these. Edited versions and previously released extended versions of songs from 25+ years ago. Scraps. confused

well yeah, but this is better than another re-release of an album or single
that was widely released before.

at least TVE is a rarity and it will be nice to have it in (possibly) a bit better
quality than the cassette rip we have now (although i doubt they are rippin
this from any source other than the cassette tape either).

A cassette? That is the dumbest idea ever.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

1980's Sony Walkmans are going for $350+ on ebay. Wish I held onto mine.

I'm sure there must be cheaper cassette players. Anyway I doubt people will buy it to listen to it. It's more like a collector's item to put on a shelf.

Of course there are. Disposable income is a bitch. Imagine listening to an old/new cassette on a 1980s device. It's the same as people who still collect 78 rpms. Of all people, I would think you would understand that.

Oh yeah, you can still buy a cassette player in a pawn shop. Maybe I'll do that (mine broke down years ago) and then I'll finally be able to listen to this tape and all those old bootleg tapes again. Because buying a recording and not being able to listen to it makes no sense to me.

All RSD releases usually are. Have yet to play any RSD records Ive purchased in recent years.

The VE Cassette is (and WAS) always a meh release. So nothing much going on there.

A reissue of HMPL on the other hand excites me a bit. biggrin wink

Too bad my Spanish is a bit rusty.... anyway, I wonder whether they will deliver as the idea of RSD is that you get it from an actual store and not online.

I still have a mini-boombox that plays cassettes & cds. I got it at target years ago. Also an old car with a factory installed cassette player. Shocking, I know. It recently ate my Parade cassette after years of great sounds but I forgive.

I hope there's a download code with the cassette, but I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed.
