First time Prince used the n-word?

I imagine it was in the 90s, right? P. Control is the first song I remember having it.

A certain kind of mellow.

I'd say The Sacrifice Of Victor. Though the word is there in the title of 3 Nigs United 4 West Compton so even if it's not pronounced, technically that probably is the fist "use".

On record, probably The Sacrifice Of Victor but Tony M actually says it. Same with Black MF In The House; does he actually say it

.

The earliest use 'caught on tape' could be the Shockadelica rehearsal that leaked not long ago. He laughs and says to Cat something about 'the n****'s in the front row'. That must be 87/88

Yes, in his redneck voice.

I thought he said 'jiggas' but I guess that's close enough!

No, actually much, much earlier, ca. 1983.

You can hear him sing "...why must a nigga stop with you before he starts ?" during one of those Something in the Water rehearsals recorded in the warehouse. (St. Louis park ? Eden Prairie? But definitely one of those warehouse rehearsals from the early 80s).

There´s another one that even predates it but I can´t recall the exact date or song.

.

I was actually quite surprised to hear it because it sounds so unusual to hear him use that word during that era and especially with that band.

I never liked his use of the n-word or overuse of the word motherfucker during his mid 90s shows. To make grown folks in Europe say "Play that muthafuckin´ bass!" was kind of odd to me and just two years later his own phrase would haunt him and started getting on his nerves during later shows and he had to tell the audience to stop using that chant. lol

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

The first one caught on tape is actually in “Cloreen Bacon Skin” (March ‘83). He said it at the beginning of the jam : “Nigga, what you lookin’ for nigga?” while Morris gets his headphones back on.

Just to add to the timeline:

I did a quick search on stuff.

Unreleased: "🖤 or 💲" was recorded on July 9, 1985, and we hear him sayin', "play nigga!" on a rehearsal tape (heard on 4 Da Funk's Parade Demos)

Released: "Bob George" he uses it, and was recorded on December 7, 1986.

Released: He uses it in "The Flow", and "The Sacrifice of Victor" (already noted).

Released: He also uses it on "Pheromone", "Pheromone make a nigga go crazy, fuckin' around make a nigga wanna die".

The 1983 moments are interesting. I'm sure he used it a lot, and there's probably a lot of it on tape. They just haven't ever leaked.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

He said it during Bambi at Sam's Club in Minneapolis on 3/8/82.

He would use the N word when he was in the 'Gigolo' voice

.

I don't remember it on any recordings before 89/90. But at the ended of the unedited Darling Nikki he calls someone in that 'voice' ni&&a, and I believe at the beginning o the unreleased Love or Money 'Play nigga'

.

Oh sorry, he does say it as the cop in Bob George: Oh no the n... got a laser

.

Sheila E says it on her 3rd album. For some reason I think Sheila E probably said it regularly and influenced Prince. "When ni&&a's get to bold" "2 Nigs United 4 West Compton"

.

I don't like the term at all. I'm glad it is not something that has tainted his 1978-1988 catalogue. And I'm glad he stopped using it.

Even though I think this is a silly thread I used to think before the

official lyrics came out for crucial Prince sung "Is that other nigga nocking at your door"

instead of "Is that old man river nocking at your door" lol lol

I think it's clear the person is talking about on a song... don't flame bait

I think it's on Cold Coffee and Cocaine.

Also, anyone notice that he uses it three times on the recently leaked Playtime Versace? The Good Life, 18 & Over and Da Bang.
