"The wee shite..." Also, call me naive, but I've always assumed that Prince rented the house to perform at these aftershows.

I am glad Donald MacLeod saw it as good promotion, as 400 tix for 15 pound each put him at a loss, after handing over 15.000 pounds to Prince. Heehee. He was so gangsta back then. >>

I was at the SECC (in Glasgow also) gig same night, first ever gig. I was only 12 so no chance of getting into the after party 😁 I won the tickets in the national newspaper, which I found out only when they arrived on my 12th birthday.

I was there, my first after show (although I almost got in in Hamburg in 1990 - where he did not play).
Great times. Remember he kept his glasses on for much of the gig and was pretty hyper.....

I worked for that guy the year before, summer of ‘94, as a barman in The Cathouse. Great days. Can’t remember why, but I couldn’t make it to The Garage after the SECC gig. If memory serves they announced the aftershow from the SECC stage, and I had never seen one at that point. Would be 12 more years to wait for that experience.

Yes, they announced it from the stage. We walked towards Sauchiehall and then got a taxi in a great rush and said take us to the Garage asap....the driver looked at us strangely and then drove us the remaining 200m!! The queue was massive so we (i hate to admit) pushed in right at the front....

That´s something I noticed right away when I watched this clip. The energy seems to be through the roof during this show. I was at the first night of the Paradiso aftershows during this tour and absolutely LOVED the show. He played 18 and Over, not exactly a favorite song of mine, but that rendition was simply superb. I never would have thought that a live version of that song could sound good but it did. It was great ! With Morris on the organ, Prince playing that symbol guitar and dressed in a very short , black leather jacket adorned with the symbol logos on it. He wasn´t as hyper as in this clip though....but more mellow and playful. To this day, I still love that version of 18 and Over and listen to it quite often. Great night, great tour, great aftershows.

but he probably wont be able to release it in any form...f"*^&en estate Nor should he be able to. Dunno what you’re advocating here exactly. If they let him release it, they are rubber stamping every illicit recording of Prince for someone else’s profit. And you know, given everything and the paucity of new material, do we really need to see this officially released in the condition it’s in? Let him just dump it online if he wants us to see it. Which I hope he does.

But there are some venues that, for some reason, are allowed to release their recording online as part of their archive. I am not familiar with the legal details though and I don´t want to mention the show and the date and the adress here but you probably know which one I´m talking about. The black and white recording of a certain show that´s been online for several years now. I´d love to see the Garage owner do something like that since it is his venue. I also wouldn´t mind him making some money with it since he paid way more for this concert than he profited from it but I understand that it´s not that easy to release something to which he does not have the rights. Tend to agree. Makes you wonder if he's ever tried or thought of cashing in over the years. Most would have. I'd love it to come out one way or another. Great aftershow from my favourite era..

It's a great setlist to send non-fans as a preferred future release:

Oh,ok, I watched the video but I guess I didn´t hear that part. Thanks for the info, I didn´t expect an aftershow to increase a club´s attractive like that. That´s nice to know. the capital theatre NJ venue OWNS all the footage there...thats why they were able to release the Prince show from there....maybe the garage owns this footage...

I’m guessing one difference is Prince knew he was being filmed in one, and not the other. The Garage footage is a secretly shot bootleg. If that suddenly became legal to distribute, it would open up a can of worms. Bootlegging is legal depending on who does it? The only grey area I can think of is that Prince doesn’t appear to have signed any contract to perform. Which means The Garage own the footage of their stage... but surely their ability to distribute is gone the moment Prince sings. I personally don’t believe The Garage should be able to sell this, and it would look bad if they tried. But by all means chuck it online. Free show, free publicity. And it sounds like they’ve been milking that performance for all it’s worth for 24 years. It’s still the first thing they brag about on their website.

I´m not familiar with the legal aspects of all this. How is it possible that the Capitol Theatre in NJ owns the rights to their recording and is able to legally stream it online while other venues cannot ? I mean what exactly is the loophole in the Capitol Theatre matter? I´ve been wondering about this since I first saw that Controversy show a couple of years ago.
