I stopped following @prince after this move. I'm sorry, but I can't support the estate doing this. @Prince was Prince - his words, his messages, his page. His legacy is his legacy and that is up to others to maintain. They should have come up with a different page for his legacy and left his words, his page right where they were.

I think the official accounts look nice and I'm glad they archived the originals.

It makes complete sense. They even migrated his activity from when he was alive for posterity, that makes sense too.

I love questions that answer themselves. The Estate did not remove the 'historic' activity.... so?

Like EVERYTHING else about Prince, it all belongs to the estate now. The heirs eventually. And they can do whatever they want. This is small potatoes in my book.

This is the CORRECT thing to do. People aren't going to look for some account without his name in the Twitter handle. They're going to look for @prince.

The legacy account is likely more protected to save the valuable contents there, without interruption of overly-emotional fans.

I really don't understand the fuss over this. It's marketing materials. That's it. Of course it belongs to the estate. That's all Prince is in real terms now. The Estate.

I don't see why this bothers anyone. Anything Prince did on Twitter is still accessible, and now the estate is using @prnlegacy. Seems appropriate to me.

Social media decisions made by the estate, I'm fine with.

Music releases from the estate is what bothers me thus far.

I'm pleased to see a lot of people have a sense of proportion about this. It's just a simple, common-sense move to bring the social media messaging in line with that of other legendary deceased artists, which will help to create new fans. The 'old' tweets are still there for everyone to see.
