It's a fairly low resolution photo unfortunately.
I've started drawing and painting again recently so I'm thinking of doing another.

Lucky U! I use to get special promotional Prince(r.i.p.) items from my connection back in the day with a Wreka Stow manager(whom was also a Prince (r.i.p.) follower)... Yup, there are some rare items out there... I have a Tower Records light poster for Planet Earth. Anyone for Prince in a corsett? "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Sounds like we have similar stories! I had a record store manager friend too (metro Detroit area). I would sometimes get some of those LP-sized hard posters that they'd plaster all over the windows and walls.

Lucky us!!!
I had a promotional poster for the Controversy album that took up my WHOLE bedroom wall. Before my mother tore it off, balled it up,and THREW IT IN THE TRASH! haha, what was the reason she gave? I'm sure i can guess though. My best friends brother was a bit older than us and was in prince just a little before us, dirty mind, he'd dance to it and his asshole dad would come in and call prince a faggot and tell him to turn it off. Hard to believe now but Prince was seen as a true renegade and an outsider when he started and he was.

My Mother thought Prince(r.i.p.) worshiped the devil. Like many others thought about him back then.
They use to say if U played Prince's(r.i.p.) records backwards. That U would hear hidden, satanic, demonic, messages on them. Which was further from the truth. Actually a LOT of people weren't very fond of Prince back then. Like U said "a true renegade and an outsider he was".
Most people either barely liked him or really hated him. It wasn't no in between. He was like a cult artist between the 'Dirty Mind' & 'Controversy' albums.People just didn't understand him. Until 1999 hit & made him a star before the after Purple Rain followers came along .I was in the minority that loved him and I was shunned upon for it. But I didn't care.
I stood by him right until he became a HUGE MEGA STAR & NEVER left. It's not lies, sorry to say. I knew of Prince back in the Dirty Mind/Controversy era and I lived in a major metropolitan city (Seattle) where he was viewed as being an underground artist who sang nasty songs. It really wasn't even until Purple Rain that anyone that I knew even accepted him as a mainstream singer. The album 1999 (and the videos for 1999 and LRC) boosted his likability alot but he was still viewed as an overtly sexual singer (MTV wouldn't play the vids for Let's Pretend We're Married or Automatic). I jumped aboard the Prince train when Controversy was released and continued the ride all of this time. Didn't care if my circle of friends or family liked him or not, he was the artist that I enjoyed and that was all that mattered to me.

I didn't throw them away but I lost all my books and now they are ridiculously expensive to replace. I couldn't believe what some of them are going for on Amazon now.

in my neck of the woods, seattle, he was definitely a wierdo, before purple rain and even during purple rain, i remember some of the older black people, not old, just old enough not to have him as a teen idol, they weren't too crazy about him. My parents loved him but they were unusual. He was controversial, even i said at 12 years old, "he's either gay, crazy or both" when i saw the bandstand performance. by the time of controversy, it was obvious he was trying not to be pidgeonholed into the r&b category and was trying the crossover thing. The music was undeniable, it was that good that he could break a few rules, the music would win people over, it did me. I doubt that could even happen in todays music aside from a couple people like bruno mars and possibly lady gaga, music so good that it's undeniable, back then we had plenty. I still remember another one bites the dust being loved by the white folks and the black folks, simply too good a tune to ignore.

1999 CD but it was a good reason. It had a bad scratch on it and the songs skipped. I also throw away my Graffiti Bridge VHS tape away. So yeah maybe I should keep those for artifacts lol.

Really? Really???? WTF does R.Kelly have to do with what I said? Just because someone(s) has a different point of view than you do doesn't mean you get to be rude and crude. I stated my experience with how Prince was viewed in the area where I lived. Sorry it doesn't jibe with your experience. That doesn't make it wrong. Besides, if you did any kind of research you would see that I am not a teen girl, therefore Kelly has no interest in me.

I stumbled upon the hand puppet Prince used in Purple Rain in the dressing room scene at a public auction for a now-defunct movie prop company that was once based in Chicago. Had perfect provenance too .Got tired of looking at it and threw it away about a decade ago...
Just kidding!
Like everyone else, a metric ton of vintage vinyl!!!
Now I'm replenishing my library, LOL.
