Love this quirky little gem. I also thought Da Bourgeoisie would’ve worked on this album. |

Yeah I think so too. It would have been better than a few of the others on there imo. |

I couldn't say. But Better With Time was written for Kristin Scott Thomas (UTCM), so she's safe. I wondered if it was about Mayte after she went on Hollywood Exes. Can't imagine him liking that |

That is my thought. She did H Exes in 2013/14 right? The lyrics "It was a heartbreak and so many tears, How she gonna make it out here on her own" seem to fit that situation - her heartbreak, because he wanted the divorce, and she moved to NYC by herself and was on her own for the first time. Also the lyric "if it wasn't for me you'd be a 'who' " fits as well. It's unlikely she would have been well known without him. |

He never dated Kristin Scott Thomas though, so she wouldn't be a choice for X's Face. |

Just checked the lyrics - that line is not in X's Face. Hmmm, I know it's in one of his songs. |

Thanks Pink! Hmmm, I guess X's face could have been about Susannah?? They were sort of feuding at the time the song was written, and she had contributed to Alan Light's book which had just been published. Although, the whole "how's she gonna make it out here on her own" wouldn't really apply to her.

Who knows - he had so many X's!! |

Welcome! The lyrics in that one weren't so kind either.X's Face could have possibly been aimed at her since he did seem angry with her at the time. Mayte too because of the reality show. I think he was kind of mean toward the end with the monkey sounds and telling her to get back in her cage, though I do find it funny. Hard to tell who he was directing it towards since as you said he had numerous exes lol. I do like the song. It's rather quirky with the slowed down voice and I love the weird synth bass line. Dr. Funkenberry tweeted that the song was possibly titled 'Excess Space' when Prince gave a sneak listen to it at PP before it's release so there seemed to be some confusion about the title at first lol. |

Love the track. I sped up the slow voice one time. Still couldn't work out the first part but the last bit says, "edit and play".
I always thought it sounded like
"at least I never complained" which I think fits the song better considering it is a break-up track |

Sadly I think he's talking about Andy Allo. They seemed a happy couple and it ended abruptly imo. Andy cutting her afro off around the time is symbolic of break-up too. Maybe she was the person having an affair. |

Don't know if that really fits though. His lyric "black don't crack...beige don't age" wouldn't make any sense then. I think he's referring to a woman from his past - a more serious relationship. |

I thought he was talking about himself there kind of complimenting himself a bit with the 'black don't crack, beige don't age' line lol. The couple that do The Mountains and The Sea podcast said that it was said to be about her but I had never heard that anywhere. Whoever it was written about,he seemed to be pretty angry with at the time. Andy cut her fro after he passed not after the perceived breakup. She still had it then. |

Yes, I figured with that lyric he was referring to himself - as in "I'll always look better/younger than you Like a dig to the woman, which would mean the subject was most likely white if that is what he meant. |

Hmmm....I guess that is possible. He was a master at word play and switching roles around in his songs, so it's still unclear to me. |
