Did Prince use a grand piano or classical piano in his songs/ performances? Grand pianos and classical pianos are distinct from each other. I think Prince and the Revolution used the classical piano for the 1999 and Purple Rain albums.

A “classical piano” isn’t an actual instrument... The piano that Prince used in the 1999/Purple Rain era was a Yamaha CP 80 electric grand... &

Prince(r.i.p.) was SO estatic about his specially made Yamaha purple piano. That had arrived from a rush job from Yamaha Entertainment Group barely days before his trsnsitioning, Too bad he never got to take it on his last intimate only solo piano tour. Prince(r.i.p.) proudly showed it off just a week before his entering into his afterlife. Sadly his loyal follwing never experienced it live on tour.
"That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when was doing the Purple Rain tour had a lot of people who knew 'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."

i never remember seeing him play real pianos at all onstage, in fact, maybe the only one i can think of is the scene in UTCM. I think keyboards were used in performances, it's very costly and difficult transporting real pianos.

His Piano and Mic shows were keyboards in an empty piano shell. Some of the sounds had string pads mixed in. He used more than just a piano sounds on those shows.
