The Purple Rain Tour rehearsals started...? When did the PR Tour rehearsals start? I have heard audio as far back as October of 1984 but is that it? Is that as early as it goes? | |

they did a warm-up show at a cincinnati club september 23rd, 1984. i'm sure rehearsals started before that. |

Rehearsing in preparation for the tour went back to July, at least, with the one-off appearances showing some of the material in the set-list (August and September), and with the full formal tour rehearsal i.e. stage, lighting etc. commencing likely in early October. PrinceVault: http://www.princevault.co...1980)#1984 shows the one off appearance with the band at this time (Prince also guested with Sheila E. http://www.princevault.co...es_(1980)) and Duane Tudahl's 'Prince and the Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983 and 1984' first indicates official full tour rehearsals commencing in Minneapolis on 4 October (although he refers to earlier preparations during Summer). moderatorI always wondered why he waited so late in the year to tour. Was it to avoid competing with the numerous other big tours happening or to match the lyric in All the Critics love u in new york, or just the logisticsof letting the album kick in? | |
