The SB Performance has been in the Top 5 of many all time Super Bowl performance articles but as the years go by it is number one on more and more of the lists. It has become a measuring stick and one really hard to measure up to. All good things they say never last...

Purple Rain. Didn't care for the non-Prince songs, even though the performance was incredible and the risk of falling on one's butt was high for Prince and the dancers.

It was an exhilarating show. Watched it sooo many times when that's all there was of Prince on YT. The whole performance was well done, but the shot of his profile behind the curtain was everything. The rain I guess added something, but I've always wondered how much better or maybe just different it would have been without. Over time I've found his choice to do covers a bit bewildering yet he did do them well. He had so much to choose from his own work I just wonder why he chose other's material. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

I thought it was the best Sports Ball performance ever but pretty mediocre by Prince's standards. I watched it again the other day and the sound is awful. The band is buried low in the mix and the guitar is way too loud. Vocals were great as always. If you listen to it without looking at it you'll see how poopy it was.

It's one of THE most significant elements to help maintain his legacy as an iconic musician in America. Simple as that. What you don't remember never happened

In some ways for me it made the performance all that more special. A lot of artists do the Super Bowl just because they have something to promote. Prince wasn’t promoting anything other than good music. Paisley Park is in your heart

Oh I think he could have done an entire set of his own music that the audience would’ve known. But I always thought the performance was special because of the covers. Here you have one of the biggest acts in musical history on the biggest stage of the year and he’s not there to promote a new record or anything, he’s just there to play some damn good music and show what a great artist/musician he is. I feel like I used to remember more people acknowledging the out-of-tune guitar at the time. Visually stunning, yes, but I always get distracted by that guitar on the solo and I'm not even close to being a stringent technical "musician" type. It just sounds wrong.
