It's that time of year again..

Prince gave the Superbowl a performance that will never be topped. And his Superbowl press conference was fantastic!

What was your favorite part of the Superbowl performance?

Hi Benni smile I'd have to say all of it.

Welcome to "the org", Mumio…they can have you, but I'll have your love in the end nod

Watching my friends' eyes bug out watching his performance at a Super Bowl party. More than one person said said, "Damn, I forgot how good he is."

eek

Can't nobody smirk in the way Prince smirked! He was good and he knew he was good. When he could make stars (in their own right) act like giddy school girls around him, he couldn't help but know he was good!

lol - how in the world could you tear your eyes away from Prince to see your friends' eyes bug out? I couldn't take my eyes off Prince, to heck with everyone else around! LOL

Here is a thread from 2007 about the halftime show and the electronics" When Doves Fry: Why Prince Didn't Get Electrocuted at the Superbowl" though it doesn't mention the lightening. (I thought it was real, too! eek ) http://prince.org/msg/7/217052

The only disappointment I have from that spectacular performance is that we never got the studio version of "Best of You" that Howard Stern played. It seemed like a no-brainer to release it on iTunes that weekend (although Prince rarely took proper advantage of obvious opportunities like that). Would love for that to finally be released someday! Hey Prince Estate, that would be a nice release on next year's Super Bowl weekend...

Other than the obvious memory, which is that it was a jaw-dropping, hair-stand-on-end performance, I guess my favorite part was when he sang 'Purple Rain', in the rain. Cliché, I know, but it was then that I could see that he had held the crowd's rapt attention the whole time and had pulled off the impossible. I distinctly remember feeling so overjoyed for him. At the time, I was the only person in my household who cared about Prince, and who even watched the performance (I know, can you believe that). I will add that the only reason I even watched the Super Bowl was to see him perform. So, basically, my favorite part was the feeling of immense joy I had when it ended, thinking to myself, "he did it! he did! he's still got it! he proved he's the best to the people who thought he was a has-been!". Sadly, I had no one else to share my euphoria with that night, as I watched it alone in a house full of people (no one else shares my Prince obsession, unfortunately, despite my efforts). Whatever, it was epic.

I have to add that I loved his press conference, too

Today, Omarr, Prince's brother, posted the video on twitter of the classic performance:

It's the best performance of Purple Rain outside of the 83 First Avenue debut. I was 13 and remember feeling proud and very happy for Prince. The performance was an underscore of his entire career for the whole nation to see, and in extension the world. No one will ever top that performace; I don't think there are any artist of that caliber left who can do something that iconic.

RIP Prince! biggrin

Just watched it (twice) for the first time in a while. Stating the obvious but what a perfect performance in every way. The Best Of You is electrifying.
.
His face at the end; he knew he pulled it off but looked humbled at the same time. These moments make me realise how much I miss him

Still gives me goosebumps. The greatest ever showed out on the greatest stage. Dude rose to every occasion. His performances at the Super Bowl and RRHOF are stuff of legend. Both events will continue to shine light on his greatness every single year.

The best part of the performance was knowing that I was going to see him in Vegas the following weekend - and rubbing my friends' faces in it. lol
