I've always wondered: since it's illegal to ride a motorbike without a helmet, how can it be legal to do it in order to shoot a movie???

Depends what the laws were at that time.

So Apples got all wet in the water, soaked, including the hair.

So it was a double that rode off with dry hair when it should of been wet hair. They should of wetted her hair! blooper!!.

Depends what the laws were at that time.

Oh, I just checked and the US are extremely... liberal with helmets

I thought it was like Europe.

Regardless, I'm pretty sure that some action films are filmed in California (where helmets are compulsory for all today) or Europe where the hero (or his stuntman) rides a bike without a helmet.

I wonder how they manage to get around the law. Even a stuntman can kill himself.

^^^^ Magnoli cut that scene, because it was evident to him that Prince was extremely uncomfortable doing it. Same with the shower scene. He said Appollonia was going "all out" for the scene and he was clearly uncomfortable. I actually think that is very sweet.

Interesting... I remember reading that they had to cut it out because the motion picture association would've given PR an X rating rather than R...

I believe it was the bedroom scene, which was in the movie. They had done a few "versions" of that scene - a couple that would not pass the "R" rating. Appollonia stated she had to go and take a cold shower after those scenes Prince may not have dated her, but he certainly got to see and touch the "goods"

From "Let's Go Crazy" by Alan Light - discussing the bedroom scene: "The scene was shot 3 different ways, for three possible MPAA ratings, they went with the most daring, the R-rated version." So, the scene we see in the film was the most "racey" of the 3 filmed.

From the book regarding the sex scenes in the barn and shower: Magnoli confirms a long-running rumor that there was another sex scene between Prince and Apollonia, shot in a barn and involving a shower of almost literal "purple rain". Though he's been cagey about this in the past and says that it was never included in any cut of the film, shots from this scene actually appear in the Purple Rain trailer andin the When Doves Cry video. "That scene was shot in the first week", says Ken Robinson. "We looked at the dailies, and she was playing it a little bigger than she was supposed to, and you could see the awkwardness, the uncomfortableness on his face. When we saw that, the scene was immediately gone."

I wonder why he was uncomfortable.The sex scenes should have been the most "fun" part of filming the movie

I remember in January 1984,I saw a news blurb that said that Purple Rain was in danger of getting an X rating they had to edit some stuff out.I also recall a lady who auditoned for the Apollonia role saying "There is stuff in that script that I wouldn't even let my own boyfriend do to me",lol.

When Kid takes Vanity, but she really takes him, then tells him to never do that to her again. They probably never got around to filming that, especially with Apollonia.
