Prince lyrics that make you go...hmmm? When I first heard "Lovesexy" and the segue between "Eye No" and "Alphabet St", I figured the voice was saying "I got more ho's than a golf course" as in a pimpish play on words.
But I see that in the lyrics of "Big Tall Wall" he says:
Baby doll, U're so glam Every time I see U I wanna slam U have the nerve 2 walk up my street Didn't anybody tell U that My modus operandi left a lot 2 be desired? I got more holes than a golf course Oh yeah, U're hot company
So what does he mean? Same thing?

A ho' is a girl. It's slang. A golf course has holes aka ho's. Pretty easy.
One of the funnier lyrics from Prince that I think is a better play on words is "We're gettin' ready to get funkier than a sack of granddaddies".

"Ho'" stands for "hole"?? 4 realz? I'd always assumed it was short for "whore", but "hole" makes it even more offensive |

it's only just now dawned on me, too
ps: i always thought the other lyric was 'funkier than a sack of grains' and was like 'what's so funky about a sack of grains anyway?'

The only thing I can come up with, is a certain smell that some old people have ("granddaddies" ... no offense to any old person)...so I'm guessing that's the funky part. |

"I've got more holes than a golf course' - I always thought he meant he had plenty of women he could 'get his hole' with. |

I've always heard "Oh yeah, you'll have company," not "you're hot company." |

makes sense. since he has more 'ho's' than a golf course, it's to be expected that she'll have company when dating him
anywho, i used to think they had a lot of hoes at the golf course to hoe the grass
at the end of the day it's just as rude, it's just that the new explanation is even more perplexing, given that it's right there on lovesexy, which is like his most non profane album

Ho' is short for whore/prostitute. Hole is a slang word for a woman/vagina. Ho' is not short for hole. Maybe a play on words in the lyrics, but not the same definition.

Let me be clear: golf courses and women both have holes that men love to shoot white things into. (There's probably a ball joke in there somewhere, too.)

From "Style": "Style is Mayte in the shower" When I first heard this, I couldn't believe my ears.
From "Love 2 the 9s": "Will U keep your cool if I washed ur feet?" I was thinking at first that the girl gets mad if Prince tried to wash her feet for whatever reason - now I'm guessing the girl is ticklish and Prince is asking will she commit to a foot wash without squirming. Either way, I'm thinking "hmm?" |
