Prince adding Eric Leeds the beginning of the end of the Minneapolis Sound? When Prince added horns to his sound in 1984 his career on the charts got terribler and terribler. He wasnt unique any more.he was basically a james brown knockoff band. Why you think he wanted to be so irrelevant after Purple Rain?

Maybe disregarding what people expected, which is to say, the charts, was the most badass move he could make. The name of the game is find out what sells, and then transcend it. If nothing else, it means you’re so cool...you don’t care about what sells. Or, you’re so brilliant, you’ll find something else that sells as well. It’s not the easy road, but it’s more rewarding. It also leads to brilliant reinventions, like Parade, Sign o the Times, etc. it’s what makes prince, prince. . Or were you trolling?
