Did anyone catch Naomi Smalls as Prince in the latest ep of Rupaul's Drag Race All Stars 4?

Naomi Smalls is a drag queen who is a contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 4.

Has anyone seen the latest episode from a few days ago? The queens performed a funeral skit and runway look, and Naomi Smalls dressed as Purple Rain-era Prince.

I liked this protrayal of Prince, whenether Naomi spoke in a manly, slightly gruff vouce or a soft, feminime voice.

Yeah, and I was going to post about it, but got lazy.

To be clear before people get their panties in a twist: the "funeral skit" was a roast disguised as a faux-eulogy for legendary Lady Bunny. Naomi Smalls did not dress as Prince for this. The challenge had nothing to do with Prince. They can still dress how they wish on that one because the challenge is about doing 5 minutes of funny material.

The runway look was Angelic White, not dress like your favorite rock star. Naomi came out in a white leotard with ruffles and jewelry, carrying a faux purple symbol guitar. Her make-up was on point and she was giving me a mix of Prince/Andy Allo vibes. The thing about Naomi is that she's loooong-legged. Just legs for days, but he really embodied the spirit of Prince's sexiness and duality with male and female genders (as Prince did with his Gemini stuff).

The commentary from the judges included puns like "Ohh, raspberry ber-gay", or "this is what it sounds like when doves cry" then slapping his/her own ass.

The queens typically speak in their own voice, never trying to mimic someone else. So her voice is what it is, and had nothing to do with her paying tribute to Prince. It's not a look-alike contest. It's a drag contest. I think for some folks, there's always a misconception about drag being an impersonation contest, and it's not. Most drag personas are completely original, not a take-off of an existing person (although people like Chad Michael's making a living as a professional Cher impersonator is an exception, not a rule).

I'm gonna wait to see who's a homophobe on here and starts chanting about it being "insulting" or "gross". Naomi Smalls is not the first queen to pay tribute to Prince, or the first person, and he won't be the last.

Naomi was fierce and nailed the runway. She fell short on the funeral roast of Lady Buddy.

and then, a bit later in the 'RPDR fashio photo review', with raven and aquaria, aquaria
mentioned "319" when discussing naomi's look on the runway and all things prince eek

i think i screamed at the totally random '319' reference lol

FYI Valentina is going to be in the RENT Live on Fox, on January 27, at 8pm ET. Also in it are Jordan Fisher, Vanessa Hudgens, Tinashe, Valentina, Kiersey Clemons, and a bunch of other people I don't know. Obviously, Valentina is playing Angel Dumott Schunard.

it's not as much fun as it used to be. esp with raven being such a bitch lol

and one of those two is always on the road or doing something else so they
have a co-host most of the time and it's just not that great anymore.

but you know, i'll watch anything whilst i'm cutting veggies for dinner biggrin

I've seen RENT a few times. Twice on stage, the movie, the cinema event airing the last ever performance, seems like something else, and now the upcoming FOX special. I love JLM's movie version of "I'll Cover You" at the funeral.

JLM has been on The Flash on the CW since its inception. He did take a leave of absence during season 5 because of a back injury. He was also on "Smash" while it lasted, and in a crossover episode of Supergirl (as part of the Arrow universe). He's about to be Marvin Gaye in a new movie.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

i thought the episode was overall a lackluster

the only saving graces were Manila's eulogy/roast & this week's runway looks

When Naomi came out....

Wasn't expecting that and a first for Drag Race's herstory

She did a fab job and I admire her cheekiness giggle

her outfit is like a fusion of Prince/Susan Moonsie wink

She did a great job of transferring the classic PR Prince to a feminine asthetic.

.

Her roast set was terrible though, if it wasn't for the runway I would've voted her off if I was Manila/Monet. boxed

I thought the fake-eulogy skit was one of the worst skits of the All Stars series. I prefer the Roast from a few years back featuring Jinkx Monsoon, Roxxxy Andrews, Coco, etc.

The Queens made up for it for the Runway.

The skit concept wasn't bad. Some of those queens just aren't comedians. It certainly thins the herd.

Ok, how about a different perspective on this?

I am a male who dates and has sex with other males. I don't subscribe to labels, therefore I'm not "gay" or "bi" or anything. Just me.

I believe that the idolization of drag queens and "gay culture" is extremely detrimental to the equal rights of homosexual people, and often get called a "homophobe" for this view, but my opinion on all this is actually FAR more progressive than the "gay pride activists" who do ridiculous things like wear giant inflatable penis suits, march in parades, dress as women, and wave rainbow flags around

.

How about we all just act like our natural, innate personas, instead of subscribing to the belief that you are supposed to 'celebrate' the fact that you're gay/bi/trans/a drag queen/whatever.... isn't that separating and distancing yourself from 'everyone else', which is the exact opposite of the goal of equality and treating all human beings the same?

there's something to be said for that. the extremes are never really cute.

however, i think it's more detrimental and more worrying that more and more people don't want
to be labeled as gay anymore. even if they really are. but no, everyone is non binary and cis now.

cute.

there are people who are non binary, i'm sure and there are people who are cis.

but it seems like more and more people just don't want to come out anymore and so they just
keep repeating that they don't want to be labeled, that gender and sexuality is fluid etc etc.

also cute.

but when everyone is at home, being non specific and invisible, it's going to become harder and
harder again for the kids who actually have the balls to stand up and be proud to be who they
are, willing to go to marches, to embrace even the more 'ridiculous' parts of gay culture just to
keep reminding people that it's ok to be gay and be yourself.

i used to not like the excesses either, but more and more i'm coming round to thinking that if we
all sit on the couch, don't visit gay bars anymore ("we don't need gay bars, god!, why would
we
put ourselves in boxes and separate ourselves from straight people? we can just go
to a regular
bar if we want to hook up with someone. besides, i'm gender fluid, so i might
even hook up with
a woman heheheheh. oh wait, give me a second, i'm getting new
grindr messages. why go to a
bar if you can hook up at home heheheh. guys in bars only
look for sex. gross! and i might even
run into a drag queen at a bar. barf!!')** and all act
like pride is no longer necassery, we're going
to regress to a point where all gay people stay in the closet and repression is just 1 step further
down the road.

** the quote is something that was actually said to me in a 'discussion' outside of a gay bar. it was
said to me by two people trying to convince me that drag queens and 'visible gayness' are shocking
and totally not what gay people need.

i mingled in their loud (can everyone hear us?) conversation where they were proclaiming that it
was 'his' own fault (a couple of queens had been beaten up in the city centre a few weeks prior)
for being out in drag and what did you expect? besides, they should just act like men and not be
such pussies when a group attacked them. and now they were getting attention in the press and
being victims and boohoo, they were invited on a boat for the yearly pride float. pride! they could
not understand why we still need pride. pride was horrible, disgusting, shamefull.

so i couldn't just stay silent and tried to reason with them (and well, basically tell them they are
silly little cunts, filled with self loathing and a warped sense of what emancipation is)

the 1st one was a guy i'd had a short fling with just a few months prior. gay as fuck.
the 2nd one, who is often to be found at this gay bar, actually claims to be straight lol

these kind of people really make me sick and they are more shocking and weird than any drag queen
could ever be. the self hate of some people is just so obvious and yet they don't see it.

the 'fling' has been texting me to hook up again. i've ghosted the fuck out of him. would not put my
dick anywhere near that anymore.

aaaanyway, i'm not attacking you or saying you are like these people 3stori3s, i don't know you and
i've never spoken with you. but in regards to what you wrote, yeah, i was triggered lol

It's not so much that people try to prove that they are gay, bisexual, trans, etc, but rather show the human side of it. That's why RPDR is a success not because it shows drag queens and the gay community in a over-the-top way. It shows that these people are human, with feelings, families, and a past.

It's not so much that people try to prove that they are gay, bisexual, trans, etc, but rather show the human side of it. That's why RPDR is a success not because it shows drag queens and aspects of the gay community in a over-the-top way. It shows that these people are human, with feelings, families, and a past.
