Your Top 2 Favorite Music Videos?

What are your Top 2 Favorite Prince Music Videos and Why?

1. Mine would be "Face Down" because, for me, it represents prince at his absolute coolest, not-giving-a-fuck. Shame it was never given a larger platform until now.

2. Batdance; the craziness of the ending and the whole "I'm going to kill you," "I'm not going to kill you" coupled with a great existential battle to live or kill oneself.

Y'all?

When Doves Cry because it contains scenes from Purple Rain and and it features The Revolution. Also U got the look cos it has the wonderful Sheena, Cat and Sheila.

I'm from the buckle of the bible belt, and I saw "Face Down" everywhere. Hell, he performed it on the premiere episode of Chris Rock's show on HBO. That's saying something especially since he had "3 hours of love, lust, and liberty" to choose from.

It's sort of tough because the vast majority of Prince videos are just performance videos. No real concepts or anything unique. Even the videos from Purple Rain felt obligatory to the movie or the tour, nothing new. Ones before that were solely performance videos. "America" stands out as a transitionary period. He was past PR, filming and working on UTCM, but had already completed ATWIAD by the time the PR tour ended. His short hair and camel-hair overcoat lent to the pending UTCM era stuff, yet he was still wearing his lacy black pants probably worn on the PR tour. "Batdance" is certainly something different, to that point, that we'd not seen before. Movie promo tie-in yes, but with that and "Partyman", he really enveloped the Gemini character; almost an extension of Spooky Electric's inherent evil. After that, with the video albums and hour-long video specials airing in Japan or the UK, it's hard to pull one song out of those and call it a video. But, all that said...

My top two would be:
"Gold" - yes, pulled from a special but also a singular video unto itself; I chose it if not merely for the middle-aged man's face in the audience when Prince breaks into his solo.

"Willing And Able" - simply for the live arrangement of an otherwise C+ song on Diamonds and Pearls.

Honorable mentions to:

Anotherloverholenyohead

Batdance

America

Raspberry Beret (and the Hulk wig)

I Wish U Heaven (either version)

Paisley Park (either version, and at least for going outside to film something different)

Cinnamon Girl

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Nothing Compares To U

The first just because I love his energetic dancing in his younger years, the second because I love his version of his own song. Also fun to see him practicing his moves and splits, etc.

Awesome post...middle aged guy with cheesy grin in Gold always cracks me up. 😆

America is great a stand out I just saw it the other day and was excited like I was back then watching it. Batdance is entertaining as well.

I would have to say Mountains because he looks amazing, the band is performing in Heaven and it ties in with UTCM.

Also Violet The Organ Grinder because I cannot stop looking at Prince in that vid. A little guilty pleasure.

"U got the look" encompassed all the cool things about the 80s. Prince was so cutting edge especially in the 1980s..rarely anything he did came off corny. It was one of the most badass videos I ever saw.

I do enjoy the Batdance crazy, and Face Down is cool, yes...but...

*

1. Partyman - the humour and the purple and orange.

2. Anotherloverholenyohead - Performance! And yellow. And the look on Wendy's face when the crowd sings. And Prince's smile during the horn break. Just divine.

I was there at Paisley for the "Gold" shoot; there's probably a very small chance some part of me might've made it intot the video.

Kiss. The way he dances, the kiss on Wendy's cheek- priceless!
The other one is more difficult... I think I'll chose Sign O' the Times because it's so much different from his other vids and because it makes you focus on the lyrics.

Probably When Doves Cry and Kiss. I also like Rasberry Beret and I get a kick out of Automatic because of how 80s it is.

"The One U Wanna C", which is apparently due to be released on youTube this month or next. I do love that. Being a man of a certain age, that hippy Laugh-In type variety show was still popular in the 70s, so I remember things like that. It is a great throwback, and one of the more interesting performance videos.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Yes I too love that look for the 60s/70s period in the video, he did a little bit of that look in the Musicology and 3121 (and possibly Planet Earth) periods

Kiss- it shows off his sense of humor and his sexiness to the MAX!

Willing & Able- it shows off his enormous vocal ability and his arrogance, as in 'hey, look at me, I can sing this song like it ain't NOTHIN!' biggrin

I Wanna Melt With U because, I dunno, I like pussy.

Automatic because besides it being one of my favorite P joint, who doesn't like it when pussy brings something for the wrist?

After that, damn, tough call. Bunch of faves, some for pure Prince hotness like Kiss or Scandalous, some for sentimental reasons like Raspberry Beret and America, but coming in at number three is probably when P got Oprah pregnant on live tv:

I wonder if she kept the baby?
