What kind of Classic Rock influence you hear on Plectrum Electrum album

Whenever Prince did a rock song it would

be compared to Funkadelic, Jimi or Santana.

But do you think Prince infused some influenced

that are less obvious like he did on Dirty Mind?

For example early Prince rock stuff from 1979 album

sounded like Boston,Thin Lizzy and other classic rock stuff.

But on Dirty Mind you can hear the

influence of punk bands

like Clash so that kind of rock influence

was different and new to Prince.

In my opinion Prince did add some new

sounds with Plectrum.

Never befor was i thinking Black Sabbath,Led Zeppelin when

i was thinking about Princes brand of rock.

But its hard for me to imagine Prince listening to Black Sabbath

yet it sounds like he did listen.

Oddly, the classic rock some of us think of when we hear the term is different then what is considered classic rock these days. I hear early Pearl Jam in Wow. Maybe a little ACDC in Preztel. Some Zep. Not sure where TicTacToe and White Caps are coming from, though I'd love to hear a Prince vocal version of White Caps. Marz is kinda punky. Boy Trouble and Stop This Train seem like a bit of a detour from the overall sound. FUNKNROLL is kinda fun, but I think this style could have spawned its own record.

I always thought the drums sounded really dry on this record. I wonder if it would have sounded a bit more epic with a little reverb.

I don't know, I've only played it around five times. The title is of course reminscent of Led Zep.

Wow reminds me a little bit of Aerosmith. Not a specific Aerosmith song but just an Aerosmith vibe. And of course parts of Plectrumelectrum are reminiscent of Zeppelin’s The Ocean.

It's a really weak, watered down version of rock on record. Dreadful. Live it kicked ass!

He should have just released a live album of it from all of those great hit n run shows. I mean he

completely missed the boat with the release of it anyway. He created a buzz end of 2013 beginning of 2014 then after nobody cared anymore he released in end of 2014! WTF?!!

I'm sure he was difficult with the record company and they are the reasons.

Either way... live i hear all kinds of influences... as we all do with a Prince live band. But on record it really is plastic and weak. Maybe with the exception of Plectrumelectrum the track which does stand out.

maybe the reason 4 a dry drum sound is trying 2 capture a garage like sound

Baring mind this is my personal opinion of course... But i think Mars is one of the weakest songs he's ever done, embarrassing almost. Lyrically it is terrible.

Another Love is average at best and as someone mentioned, the singing from 3rd Eye Girl is weak.

THIS!

I don't give a fat shit to hear 3rd Eye Girl sing anything. It's a goddamn Prince album no matter how you package it. To hear any of them yelp through a song, despite who wrote it, is annoying as hell. Thank you, next.

Yes,he should have handled most of the leads himself as with 'Wow","Tictactoe",and "Anotherlove." I do love "Whitecaps" but would have appreciated it more with his vocals. I would have liked the album better if he had included the songs that were streamed on 3rd Eye Tv. It should have had more instrumentals like those and I was disappointed they weren't on it.
