Rita Ora's new album finally out... Where's Prince? So Rita's second album has finally been released, but the big question is, what happened to the Prince tracks? I'm a Rita fan anyway but of course those tracks were what I was looking forward to the most. We know of Pink Champagne / Champagne Kisses, The Single Most Amazing, and her solo version of Ain't About To Stop (I think there may have been one other?). It's kinda disappointing that after she kept banging on about Prince being on it in every interview in the last few years, the tracks are MIA. Perhaps they got lost during her legal issues with Roc Nation? Hopefully not as we know how protective Prince was about ownership. Does anyone know anything else regarding this? If you ever lose someone dear 2 U, never say the words "they're gone". They'll come back.

yeah, i'm still hoping prince's own version of 'the single most amazing' will be released one day and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

That is disappointing. I remember Prince's tweets about "The Single Most Amazing" in 2015. I was hoping to hear "Pink Champagne" as well since she said it was a duet with him.

Possibly release blocked by estate

I would think any chance of her version of "It Ain't About To Stop" coming out disappeared when Prince used it on Phase One, but it's not that surprising that his tracks didn't make the cut, is it? Albums that are delayed for 3 years can be expected to go through extensive re-tooling. [Edited 12/14/18 11:04am] [Edited 12/14/18 11:04am]

Wasn't Kat Graham's album Love Music Funk Magic supposed to have had some Prince involvement? I believe that she also covered "If Eye Could Get Ur Attention" iirc. I saw that it's not on the version of the album on Tidal. It's too bad that the Prince tracks were cut off the new album from Rita. I was wanting to hear what he had done with "Pink Champagne/Champagne Kisses and it's evolution from "U Will B" since it was never properly recorded.I remember Dr Funk mentioning it on a podcast. I'm kind of surprised that he hasn't said anything about her album and what may have happened to the songs with Prince since he had tweeted a bit about it in 2015. [Edited 12/14/18 13:34pm]

Let’s just hope the Prince estate has plans to release them at some point. I’d much rather hear the Prince versions anyway!

I don t think the estate blocKed these Releases . What would be the point ? I Think Prince KEpt the tapes of the recordings, and now that he is dead, nobody knows where it is. . MJ used to do that when he collaborated with somebody else. The producer had at best the tapes with the music, MJ always kept the tapes with his voices. .

I wonder if she has a copy of any of the songs like some of the other artists he worked with or if he had them all in the vault. Someone said that Delilah had some songs that they worked on together there. In some interviews in 2015,Rita talked about working with Prince and recording the duets but I don't think she's said anymore about it recently.

No I don’t think the estate blocked them, her new ‘team’ just wanted to start from scratch I imagine (they were slightly dated in sound). Not sure of the ‘rights’ as such, her versions are probably hers/the record label and Prince’s original versions are his/the estate. Prince (Estate) still retains writing and production credits and at least half the publishing. [Edited 12/18/18 12:24pm]

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Since "Pink Champagne" was supposed to be a duet,I suppose that Prince had the master of that as well. It seems that I recall Rita saying they wrote it together. I also wonder what will become of the material he recorded with Delilah and Natalya. She talked like she had copies of some of those recordings so I was wondering if that may be the case with Rita.

Oh okay, thanks! I seem to remember Kat saying in an interview that he had some involvement with the album or that they had recorded some other songs at Paisley. I think it was in an article that Dr Funk shared on Twitter before the album came out.

I like Prince's version the best but I like Taja's as well. Kat's version is okay too. I'd like to know more about the music she said they recorded.

Just to confirm, P has no involvement with Kat's version? There's no mention of it on Princevault...

I'm not sure but she did say that they recorded some music together at Paisley Park. I suppose she recorded If Eye Could Get Your Attention with his blessing.According to this interview with Kat,he was involved with the album and possibly the song as well. From what she said, she started the album working with Prince and Babyface and after Prince passed, finished it with Kenny. www.soundcloud.com/sirius...ham-prince

Thanks pinkcashmere. Shame there's no liner notes so we can say for sure. Though that would assume he'd be credited anyway which is rare indeed!

You're welcome! Yeah, she didn't seem to want to reveal much about his involvement. I saw an interview with Rita with Seth Meyers from 2015 and she didn't say much either. She just talked a bit about visiting Paisley and said they recorded a few songs.
