Even with the "bad" verse, that version is historic. I feel like the first and the last time he played the song live have to be the top 2. Syracuse 1985 and Milan are darn good also and could easily be on the list.

Any list that does not include the performance at the 1985 AMAs is suspect.

You are probably right. Hard to narrow it down to 5.

I tend to like the versions where he sings a few bars of the weeping part after the guitar solo the most. I tend not to like the versions where he does not do it himself and only lets the audience sing it. He lives in those notes and there is no more beautiful sound in the world than when he sings those notes.
