For me it was the 1999 album which I bought after Purple Rain came out. I remember laying in bed with my headphones listening to each song. It was the best thing I had ever heard. What a great album. Hooked ever since.

Probably "I Wanna Be Your Lover", as I used to only really like the relatively little 'disco-flavoured' stuff he did - I didn't really 'get' Prince for a long while and thought his production style was too sparse for my liking.
Getting into the lesser-known singles and album tracks of the likes of 1999, Purple Rain and Emancipation many years later - "Automatic", "Lady Cab Driver", "Computer Blue" and so on - helped to confirm to me that I could be a fan of his all-round oeuvre.

For me, it was the song "1999." I'd heard "I Wanna Be Your Lover" once or twice, but "1999" grabbed me and didn't let go. Oh, and I'm talking about the first time it was a single, prior to "Little Red Corvette" breaking down the doors commercially.

Cant remember which year, but I have memories of my older brother playing 1999 on vinyl and him showing me penisness of the 1. I was prolly 8. Few years later I was a big fan of Raspberry Beret on tape. I was fan but not obsessed until the Symbol album came out. I listened to that album non-stop, then started listening to everything else and the rest is history. (Insert something clever here)
