Lol do you really believe 1999, who peaked in 1983, was the #5 best selling album of 1982, whereas it was released in October ?
. Or does it mean 1999 is the #5 best selling album of the 80's, which is a more ridiculous statement? |

Really?? number 2???
Purple Rain was at the number 1 spot for 24 weeks, at the album hitlist.. I wonder what album did beat Purple Rain away from the number 1 year spot??? Prince 4Ever. |

Purple Rain was at the number 1 spot for 24 weeks, at the album hitlist.. I wonder what album did beat Purple Rain away from the number 1 year spot??? According to the Billboard Year End issue of '84, PR wasn't even in the Top 20 for best selling albums that year. Thriller was at #1 of course and right behind at #2 was Huey Lewis & The News' Sports. Don't get me wrong, Sports was a HOT seller in 1984 but PR was by a large a far bigger thing. The magazine itself even said it sold around 5 million while PR sold around 8 million so IDK exactly how Sports ranked in at #2 while PR missed the Top 20 by 4 spots. I can only guess that they were factoring in radio play as well as total time on the charts of which Huey had almost a year's headstart over Prince as well as a longer climb over several months to the Top 10 and eventually the very top of the chart. |
