I read that "irresistible bitch" has a little bit of it too. Just 4 or 5 words... and not all that easy to hear.

I was the one who found the quiet stuff in "Irresistible Bitch". It's not backward (unless I'm missing another part). It's actually him quietly saying "irresistible bitch" sorta wrapped around the drum beat and percussion sounds. It's really faint, but it's there.

Or were you noting something else in the song?

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

It was mentioned in Duane Tudahl's book. September 16, 1983 session... (p, 170 in the expanded ed.)

"I want you" and "Irresistible Bitch" about 25 seconds in... in reverse. (maybe 3:33 when played backward, I think I hear "I want you I want you, Irresistible bitch...")

I think Duane has an account here. Last year when the book was coming out he made a topic about it.

And I probably commented, although I don't recall it off hand. I remember quite a few years ago I was listening to the song, and something just perked my ears up. I dug into it more and found the "irresistible bitch" mumbling in the percussion. It's so faint but recognizable.

I need to get DT's book. I never bought the first one but I read the ePub.

Uhm, no. The basic melody line has the same notes going up and down, but it resolves in notes that aren't present in the first notes of the melody line. It can't be reversed.

. Hence the "more or less".

i think it does but it is the same, i haven't worked on it in a while but it's close enough to being the same thing

In the song "U Know". In the regular verse, he says, "If U really wanna find the answer to this cancer, then we must rewind."

So I did using Audacity.

Backwards it says:

"This cancer is the answer to this death."

I thought it was pretty creepy because I always thought he was sick and possibly had cancer.

I made a video of recording here: https://youtu.be/H49YB8txVtw

Prince played around a lot with backwards stuff. The "crying" in the Purple Rain movie, the many backwards things...

The backwards crying in purple rain also contains a Jill jones backwards spoken part:

“No, it’s not allright, I don’t want to go to hell...please don’t tell me you can’t help me now, oh lord sweet saviour of mine...I don’t want to go to hell, I want to go to HEAVEN”

Excuse me? I was just brainstorming topics for this forum. I used to reverse music and thought about when Prince reversed his ex-girlfriend's voice in Purple Rain.

You said, "Prince himself was known for reversing his own songs to fit new tunes."

I asked, "No one would say, "Oh yeah, Prince is that guy who used to spin his own music backward and write new stuff over it. Name any relevant examples that are "Oh yeah, that was awesome. People loved that!"

I just wanted to know where Prince "was known for reversing his own songs to fit new tunes". I mean, we're all pretty hardcore fans here, and no one's offered anything. Thoughts? Did you have something in mind?

Ah, I see. Apologises for the late reply, I realised you posted that "waiting request" in late December. eek

Ok, one example: the song "Rainbow Children". In the middle of the song, you hear Claire Fischer strings that are sampled from "Violet The Organ Grinder", but reversed and pitched low. You would have to open "Rainbow Children" on a music editing program and adjust it to "Violet" and reverse it.

And of course he famously decided vocals/lyrics for Shortberry Strawcake, so he took the vocal track and reversed it on it.

.

There's reversed reverb, reversed drum tracks, reversed vocal tracks and even stuff like after Darling Nikki. I've heard about more tricks that were done with Clare Fischer stuff, so there's reversed almost everything.

.

I guess it's safe to say that Prince did do a lot of reverse stuff, although the main timeframe of him doing that is 82-87, before the great downfall of the black album/lovesexy. Everything after that seems less experimental, more him trying to chase trends on and off. So depending on what you listen to most, this is something that's completely normal or something he rarely does.

he didn't start working with fischer until parade but i always figured maybe the actual musicians who played it just put in what they thought fit, novi novog i think was one of their names. It's possible Prince composed it but it's more likely it was a collaborative thing which he did a lot of for that project. Prince used certain chords and the chords aren't like what he usually composed.

no no no! First collaboration with Clare Fischer was for The Family album (1984).

As for the Purple Rain coda, it sounds like something Lisa would compose (see her four chords sequence in the inner sleeve of Parade).

It's in Duane Tudahl's book, it appears to be a collaboration, with Lisa arranging and conducting
David Coleman, Suzie Katayama and Novi Novog on Monday, August 15, 1983.

It"s so easy to do with Audacity or SoundForge. Remember when we had to actually spin our records backwards? Good times... cool

He put what sounds like backwards recording at the end of Mayte’s album “Child of the Sun”. Another Orger shared that with me. If you dig for it, it’s also a nice excuse to get to listen to Mayte’s last song on the album, TMBBITW (boy replaces girl here).

At the end? Not sure about that.
I think the reversed effect is to be found "However Much U Want".
