Concert or a musical moment?

I'm talking about a crowd that includes different types who you don't see as the typical Prince fans. I'm talikng about G's from South Central, a country crowd isolated in the South. Americana/Bluegrass enthusiasts, Death Metal fans. Bro rock fans who mostly are big fans of Metallica. Have you showed them a moment in Prince's career, on record, on video or live in concert where the unaware people were like "OMG! He is so good, I can't deny that anymore!". And did they carry on listening to Prince's music?

I simply refer them to the time that Prince was on guitar and playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps at the R&RHOF. That usually does it for them.

Afriend metalhead came with us to the JOTY concert and was blown away and still says its the best and he is the best in concert. And that was such a shit show imho.

My friend is an avid jazz fan and civil rights advocate. I shared Xpectation and Baltimore with him, and he was hooked! The most proudful moment was when he started playing the songs I suggested to him on his radio station. So, yeah, conversion is possible

It was never my job to convert anyone.

They knew I mainly listen to rock music and they were all pretty ignorant about rock music and about music in general. In high school in the 80's, I recall a bunch of us watching UTCM at a friend's house with her mom (who pretty much dismissed all pop music) present. It was the opening scene, An Honest Man. The mom said, "But that's not really Prince playing that piano, of course. It's a classical pianist"

Us: "No, that's Prince!"

Mom: "Whoah."

I've managed to catch the ear of a few non believers with stuff like "The Ride", "Motherless Child", the Undertaker version of "Bambi" and also "the Truth". My in-laws were stunned to hear "NEWS" and "Xpectation". A LOT of people really only know him for his quirky personality, feminine appearance and his hits. The Super Bowl and the aforementioned R&RHOF performance turned a lot of heads but I still think most folks are ignorant about the true DEPTH of the man's talent. His movies didn't help his image/legacy in a lot of folk's eyes either.

My funk friends all uniformly LOVE "Exodus" and I have burnt several copies of it over the years to give away.

I've never actively TRIED to "convert" someone (becuase nothing is more annoying than "you HAVE to listen to this" but I enjoy the occasional surprise from some people when a song catches them off guard.

I was at band practice when a friend of a friend came by. I was playing some early cuts from his first two LPs. The guy said something about it being pretty good and I told him it was all 1 person, Prince. Drums, Bass, Guitar, Keys everything.
I bumped into him at school and he told me he ended up going home and purchasing a lot of Prince stuff and that he was hooked.
