LoveSign Am I delusional, forgetful, imaginative or just plain wrong? I've never realised that LoveSign wasn't as widely released as I had imagined. I always remember being familiar with the track but with it being a much more rough, dirty sound ala 'My Name Is Prince'. Was a version like that ever released (ie a B side to a single I might have picked up) or not?

There was a video, but it was never a single. It's on the 1-800-New-Funk album. That's about it as far as I know.

It was released as a promo single, but never a proper consumer single. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

There was several remixes, one of them was on Crystal Ball. You can read about it here: . http://www.princevault.co...=Love_Sign Shame WB blocked the single. Think he would have a hit with it following TMBGIW. And it was getting a lot of publicity with it being a duet with Marvin Gaye’s daughter and an Ice Cube directed video, which was getting a lot of air play.

I really liked that video and the whole era. Back then there was a story (or rather a rumor?) that Ice Cube bought a house in Minnesota, which is also mentioned in one of Cube´s songs , which then was sampled by Prince on one of the Good Life remixes if memory serves me right. Good times ! " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Sad because 1994 was the year he had ALOT of hits, but hits that never became due to the name change and record label dispute... This would've been a TOP 10 HIT for sure if released...

So true....if it wasn´t for his dispute with WB he could´ve had a long streak of possible hits back then. Acknowledge Me, I Hate U, Lovesign, Dolphin, Shhh and the Good Life come to mind. Those could´ve been big hits with proper promotion. I Hate U almost became a top ten hit and many of my friends who weren´t into Prince at all really loved that song, especially the remix. Lovesign had big potential, too. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Loved the song since day one, but never saw the video until recently! Now I know what the lovesign is!!!! A gun hand symbol! Sometimes the video is worth it for the extra visual information!

Yup... In the end TMBGITW and I Hate U were his last TOP 10 hits of his career...
His Hot 100 on Billboard lasted from 1982-1994.

I agree.Prince could have had alot of big hits during this period IF he had not been "at war" with Warners. So many of those songs had major hit potential.

I think if they could´ve reached an agreement in the early phases of that feud his musical direction would have been completely different, and probably with an enormous effect that would´ve been felt for a long time. Not saying better or worse but definitely very different. Things would´ve been very different sound and bandwise. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

There are some great Teddy Riley new jack swing remixes (five of them) and Shock G (from Digital Underground) did two remixes too. Only the Shock G's Silky Smooth Mix was released (it's on Crystall Ball).
Love Sign would have been a HUGE hit for Prince.

I remember Love Sign and Letitgo both being pushed as singles around the same time in Minneapolis. While I'm not sure if it would have been a smash had WB not killed it, I think it would have been more successful than Letitgo for sure, though I did love both. I was absolutely salivating for a new Prince album after having these 2 songs recorded off the radio, along with The Beautiful Experience EP. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

Those were great times. Prince went to Glam Slam all the time. I remember one night in the Erotic City room, Prince and Carmen Electra dancing to Madonna's Erotica (Kenlou B-Boy Mix). TRUE BLUE

It's funky as hell and that's exactly why there's no way it would have been a hit in the days of grunge and r&b and Britpop. Lovesign could have worked: catchy melody, clear anti-gun message, danceable beat, yeah it could have been big if P & WB hadn't decided to go to war.
